These reports out of NY are bogus.

MLB Story

Quote:
"There's been nothing other than just the rumor mill," Green said. "There haven't been official discussions. There's been nothing like that."
Arizona general manager Josh Byrnes, though, has met with Green to keep him updated with their last conversation taking place while the team was in San Diego this past weekend.

"He's just let me know that there's been some discussions," Green said. "I think that's very professional for him to do that. There's been discussions, but at least as of the last time I talked to him, he didn't know where things would end up. Just that there's been talks."

Green, who said he doesn't read the newspapers so he hadn't seen the report, declined to say whether he would indeed waive his no-trade clause to go to New York.

"I'll wait and see," he said. "
I know when you're dealing with a big market -- and obviously, New York's the biggest -- there's going to be a lot of rumors and different things floating around."

Once again, Green shows class and grace under pressure. I sure wish he could still play, because I am admiring him more and more as a person.

Yeah, he sure hasn't been the disruption that Gonzo has been.

I couldn't agree more, shoe. Green epitomizes class.

This is more how it actually works. Remember the Shilling deal (or Williams/Walker deal or the Green from LA deal or...). The teams work out a deal first, then they go to the player(s) involved and ask them to waive their NTC. If the player says he wants an extension before he'll waive it, the team would have 3 business days to work out a deal.

I think all statements would lead one to believe that the NTC would get waived, if and when it's asked for.

Yes...that DOES seem to be the case. You get the same sense from Today AZ Republic article

Again, from that article...

Quote:
Green, meanwhile, said the on-again, off-again rumors of his departure to the Mets have been gnawing at him.

"Sometimes, I don't know if I'm coming or going, so to speak," he said. "It's been kind of a roller coaster. But over the past week or so, I've gotten to the point where I tell myself, 'Whatever happens, happens.'

"I can say Quentin is a great young player, and he's ready to play at this level, obviously. . . . But I expect to be an everyday player as well."

Green indicated he would likely waive his no-trade clause if the Mets and Diamondbacks can work out the financial aspects of the deal. A sticking point is the $9.5 million owed to him next year, and which team will pick up the brunt of the salary.

I really like the guy... The big difference between him and gonzo at this point is that while both green and gonzo want to be everyday players - one of them wont bitch when he sits...

What is Green supposed to say? "@#$% YOU ARIZONA!" He hasn't even been here two years. Considering that Arizona isn't his home, being traded isn't that big of a deal compared to Gonzo. He's a nice guy, no doubt, but jeez, if you all love him so much, marry him (not that there's anything wrong with that).

Which reminds me of a great quote:

"What did you expect? 'Welcome sonny,' 'Make yourself at home,' 'Marry my daughter.' You've got to remember, that these are just simple farmers, these are people of the land, the common clay of the new west. You know . . . morons."

As a fan of a team that Shawn Green once hit four home runs in a single game against, I'd have every right to hate the guy. But I'm with the rest of you all...I've always had a tremendous amount of respect for Shawn Green, the person. For a while he had talent equal to his character, but now that he's reached a place where he may not even hit four homers the rest of the season (let alone, in one game), I still find myself rooting for him.

I hope he finds a situation in baseball that works for him, both professionally and personally.

Well since we're praising class-act team players who keep their mouths shut and do what's best for the team...Counsell should definitely be mentioned.

From http://www.azcentral.com/sports/diamondbacks/articles/0822dbnotes0822.html

Counsell, who developed a tight hamstring over the weekend and probably won't be activated from the disabled list until today, didn't gripe about the change.

"Stephen's going to play, so I'll just play when they tell me to," he said, adding, "It is what it is. It's their call. It's whatever they want to do. It's the way it is."

From todays Trib:

At the same time, D-Backs manager Bob Melvin said trade talks with the Mets seem to have cooled.

“It seemed there was more urgency several days ago,” Melvin said.

From todays NY Daily News:

GM Omar Minaya and Diamondbacks counterpart Josh Byrnes are said to be in very active communications the past few days.

"It's moving, but I can't tell you whether it's going to happen or not," one source said. "It's closer than it was last week."

Question at what point does all this distract the team? We all know they get distracted with stuff in the news................

From Buster Olney's chat yesterday. Notable only in that he think it will happen.

Paul (NY): What about the Mets possible deal for Green? Good idea?

Buster Olney: Paul: I think so. And I think they'll work out a deal to make it happen.
