They obviously linked the stats for the wrong Chris Carter. This is the one they were talking about

He has to be with us because he is still listed on our master roster that is updated weekly.

Maybe Josh Byrnes pulled off a stealth trade and nobody has heard about it yet. Hurry up and check the D backs roster for Josh Fields. Wink

If JB could pull of a trade like that we would need to start building his monument immediately. Fields I believe will be one heck of a player he was the only player of the 2005 Barons to hit an oppo field homerun at the Met.

Josh Fields is overrated. I wouldn't give up much for him...

well, I knew that's what you meant Wink

It's a no-brainer that Kenny W won't give Fields for Chris Carter. Heck, Kenny W already has a Chris Carter in his organization...

I am surprised that no one challenged my on my assertion that Fields is overrated. I was expecting a war of words over here...

A couple of looks at Fields:

http://www.minorleaguesplits.com/pl/435/435222ChaILb06.html

Can you figure out why his 2006 season looks so much better than his previous years (at least on the surface)?

Fields, in my mind, is going to be another Crede with the bat, but without the above average glove at 3b

I can tell you why there is a big 2005-2006 difference, The Hoover Met is a place where hitters have nightmares over. it's big, the city is in a bowl which causes the humidity to sit over the stadium. It is a horrible park in which to play in.

I don't know, actually.

Fields strikes out too much, and his .397 BABIP certainly inflated his numbers. But most minor league hitters that put up big numbers have insanely high BABIP

Charlotte is a good HR park, per 2006 Park Factors, but runs, hits and doubles were not inflated. Of course Birmingham is a tough park to hit in, so maybe his numbers last year are better than they look on the surface??

He still looks like a decent Roto candidate anyway. 28 steals and only 5 caught aint bad. I figure he struggles in 2007 and comes on to do better in 2008

in the majors, he won't sustain high batting average with his strikeout numbers. if you prorate his stats to a full season, you're looking at 160+ strikeouts. he would have to put up insanely high BABIP consistently to hit anything above .270. and he doesn't walk nearly as much, nor does he have insane power, to be a True Three Outcome slugger...

not saying he won't be a decent player long term, but he isn't nearly as good of a hitter as his 2006 stats would lead you to believe, and if he cannot play good D at 3b and has to move to LF, he won't be much of an asset there with the bat.

He also has the nickname of "never seen an outside breaking pitch he didn't like"
