Really. The numbers tell us so

With his clutch hitting and now his defense, will Grace get added HOF consideration?

I think Grace could make the HoF, but at the very most edge of the fringe.

The more interesting thing to watch is, with all the greats who have lingered on the ballot for years, will voters change their minds trying to get Jim Rice, Rich Gossage, among others in, and vote for Grace?

You need 27 votes to be left on next years ballot, will he even get enough to stay on the ballot is the question.

If Will Clark can't even stay on the ballot, they shouldn't even bother putting Grace's name on there in the first place.

Grace can't be on the ballot until 2008. I don't think he is a deserving candidate, but my bet is he does as well as Clark Their raw career rate stats are close. 303/384/497 versus 303/383/442. Of course when you take park into account Clark blows Grace away.

However Grace has always been popular with the media. He had 4GG (Clark had one). Clark bounced around some at the end of his career. Grace is beloved in both Chicago and Arizona (at least by Joe Average).

These two little stat things like clutch hitting and fielding could add something although my guess is that the media has never heard of them. Grace also has some weird non-meaningful stats that some media love like the most hits in the 90's.

Again, I don't think Grace will or should be elected. Grace's HOF standards and monitor at baseball reference sya "The answer is NO".

I didn't know Dial's article had been linked before. Sorry.

Grace is going to get nailed for being a loser in Chicago, and I doubt the writers are going to give him much of a bonus for '01. He doesn't distance himself from Clark/Mattingly/McGriff, to say nothing of the gaggle of power hitting first-basemen from the late '80s through the '90s.
