With the Foulke and Mulder (and other) revelations on speculations, it seems that if we know about it, Josh Byrnes doesn't do it, or at least it doesn't happen.
1. Have these minimal offers all been feints?
2. What and who is really on his mind?
3. Do you really think the Diamondbacks will stand pat the rest of the offseason?

In the case of Mulder, their interest was genuine, and they DID make an offer. It also turns out that the offer they made was conservative, and predicated on a steep hometown discount, which happens to be what some of us thought an appropriate offer might look like.
At the beginning of the offseason, perhaps such an offer seemed more tenable. However as the starting pitcher market unfolded, clearly that wasn't going to work.
Kudos to Josh for walking away....
I still loved the "I'll throw in a Fondieu set" line that Josh threw out there in response to whether or not the D Backs had room to improve their offer.

Very smart of him not to get bogged down in overspending for a broken down guy. |

Ditto.
And if you really want to ponder the disturbing possibilities:
What might have been offered under the previous administration?

So basically Foulke is just about signed, Mulder has ruled the D'backs out...
When are we going to see this trade that Brynes keeps referring to. I know Opening Day is still some time away but I'm starting to get a little antsy. |

meh... Just living with what we got is already better than the broken new "toys" that the old regime would have salivated over and brought here.

I'm cool with that. Never liked hearing about all the rumors, and then some turn out, some don't. I am much more in favor of JB keeping his mouth shut, and not getting involved in the FA SP hysteria. This sin't a team 1 piece away like we were '99-'03.
I'd much rather we save our resources for '08-'10 when we will be 1 or 2 pieces away, or looking to buy out some arb/FA years of our curent players.

One thing is for sure. When the Yankees took on Randy's contract a couple of years ago, it looked like they were paying a huge price for him. Two years later the price doesn't look so bad, and they are about to recover a decent payment for him in a trade to some team. I am not quite convinced yet that the team will be the Diamondbacks. |

I'd vomit if RJ ends up in SD or anywhere else in the West. RJ had this same surgery in 1996. He was fine for the next 10 years. Yeah, he's older, but he's a better bet than not, IMHO.

B.O. N. D., I suspect that there are folks in the Diamondbacks organization who feel like you do. They don't want Randy on another NL West team. This gives the Yankees some deccent leverage in trade negotiations with the Diamondbacks. Western teams are likely the only ones Randy would waive his no trade clause for. If the Diamondbacks get him from the Yankees, I don't think he'll come as cheaply as many fans would like. The Diamondbacks are likely willing to pay more for him than most players because of his importance in the history of the team. Emotions will play some role in these negotiations. |

Are you guys serious? The guy is 43, and is owed 16 a year... I think he is done, or just about there... Forget it... He was the Yanks 4th best pitcher last year... I'm not giving up one prospect for him....
