Quote: |
Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling said this morning on Boston sports radio station WEEI that he will not retire from baseball at the end of this season, as he previously had planned, and that he is in discussions with the Red Sox on a contract extension for 2008.
"I will play in 2008," were the words 40-year-old Curt Schilling told Red Sox Nation this morning.
His contract with the Red Sox ends after this season.
"Where I'm going to play beyond 2007, I hope it's Boston, but I will go out and find a home to pitch,” he said. “I hope it's here but there's also that possibility [of pitching for another team]."
Would he consider pitching for the Yankees in 2008?
"It wouldn't be in New York,” Schilling told host Gerry Callahan. “No. I could not make that move."
Schilling said that he is talking about an extension with the Red Sox. |
So if an extension with Boston doesn't work out, maybe he will be up for a reunion farewell tour with RJ?

Obviously we don't want to live too much in the past, but if he's still got something left and we're ready to make a serious run in '08, then hell yeah I'd love to see him back here. His numbers as a 39-year-old pitching in Fenway Park (and the AL East) were quite good. Hell, he was my best and most consistent starter on my fantasy team last year.

It would be funny if we ended up getting him back. AZ trades away twin Aces only to get them back.
Boy would RJ be pissed <plus just about everyone else who would have to listen to Schilling pontificate in the dugout>. |

I think it was Gonzo who was quoted as answering the question if he liked Schilling or got along with him who said...
"I loved him every 5th day" |

When I first heard, farewell tour was the first thing i thought of - but does it block one of the kids? And do the casual fans get pissed that we have RJ and Schill but not Gonzo?
And does phann get mad that Schilling isn't 3.6 compliant? |

no way, If I'm Epstein do I worry about resigning Schil in this market. Especially if he has a chance to make a move on Johann. Plus with Varitek, hitting 35, this year, a big investment in Matsuka, he has to string Schill out.

It all depends on what Schilling wants. If he would accept the same or just a little more money than he's getting now then there is a huge value there. |

He stated he just wanted another year at his current rate, 13MM. A bargain IMHO. |
