Dude! A one-sentence summary of the article would be better than just throwing link out there - dontcha think?
Even something like "Ryan Ludwick Arrives in SD" would work...

Ok
Ryan Ludwick, aquired in a 3 team deal with STL and Cle, arrived in SD today. He was a part of the deal that sent prospects to Cle and Jake Westbrook to STL.

I told a friend of mine that is a Padres fan, all you guys need to do is hold the fort for a month. We will take care of the Giants next to last series this month. It will be our playoffs. This is why a last place team is dangerous this time of year.

"Tim Stauffer will start Saturday afternoon's game against the Giants at Petco Park. The right-hander got the nod over Kevin Correia and Wade LeBlanc based on his effort Monday night when he held the Dodgers to one run on four hits over four innings as the short-notice replacement for the ill Mat Latos. "Tim has thrown the ball extremely well all year," Padres manager Bud Black said while making the announcement. "And he feels good about where he is physically. "He's healthy and confident and turning the ball loose with confidence." Black noted after Monday's start that Stauffer's fastball registered 95 mph several times - a velocity the manager hadn't seen before from the right-hander who"

After his 5 inning outing tonight, Mat Latos has increased his workload from '09 to '10 by 50IP -- an approximate 41% increase. At 22 years old, he is a prime target for the Verducci Effect going forward -- that is to say, as SI's Tom Verducci (along with Prospectus' Will Carroll) hypothesized, he is at risk of vast under-performance and/or injury in 2011. A quick examination of similar workload increases from recent years reveals an interesting trend.
From '07-'08, the top four "Verducci" pitchers were, in order of increase, Jon Lester (+54%), Cole Hamels (+43%), Chad Billingsley (+32%), and Tim Lincecum (+28%). Obviously, Latos falls into the Lester-Hamels tier. The interesting thing, however, is that of the four pitchers, Hamels and Billingsley experienced substantial regression (and in Hamels' case, some arm discomforts throughout ST and the early part of the season), while the other two pitchers, Lincecum and Lester, suffered no adverse effects.
There aren't many great candidates from the '09 season, but we can examine Josh Johnson and Rick Porcello as the best of what's available. Again, one pitcher was unaffected while the other regressed enough to warrant a minor league demotion. Obviously, with 3 of 6 pitchers regressing, the data suggests a 1/2 ratio of regression. I think, however, that each pitcher's unique physicality, arsenal, and athleticism are extremely important factors in determining which pitchers should experience the most adverse effects.
In terms of age and previous Major League exposure, Latos compares best to the young Porcello. In terms of physicality and musculature, he is more comparable to Josh Johnson and (somewhat, at least) Jon Lester. It will be interesting to see how exactly Latos' mixture of youth and physicality respond to the stresses of a burgeoning workload. My guess is his body responds more like Johnson's and Lester's, but his last handful of outings do not inspire much confidence. It's scary to think what his final workload increase will look like should the Padres make the playoffs and go on a run deep into October...

Not the least of which is:
33% of the population showed no ill effects.
A third of the population showed significant effects.
The third rat died.

Chapman tops out at 105 mph vs. Padres
Quote:
Chapman threw 25 pitches on Friday -- each of them registering at least 100 mph -- and set a new personal best with one pitch that clocked in at 105 mph and three that reached 104 mph.
The Reds keep letting him do that and he is going to have a short Major League career.
