The Giants put up Shawn Estes an Aurilia onto their wall of fame.

I heard Russ Ortiz was one too. He ate the plaque, so they couldn't give it to him.

Today's Sacramento Bee ran an article on Andres Torres' unexpected rise to stardom this season. I would like to share a portion of that real fast:
SacBee wrote:
Entering this season, Torres had 12 doubles and 15 steals in his big league career, which began in Detroit in 2002.
In fact, that's when he was diagnosed with ADD.
"But I never took the medication then," he said. "I always just thought I wasn't going to need it.
"I had so many ups and downs."
...
Now, he said, he takes about 40 milligrams a day to stay as even-keeled as possible.
Now, I know this hits close to home for a lot of members, so let me be forthright: I'm not saying that players who actually suffer from ADD should be forced to play at a disadvantage, nor am I discrediting the difficulties of living with ADD.
But come on. Really? I don't have the statistics in front of me, but we've all read recent reports of speculation that ballplayers -- especially veterans -- are abusing MLB's drug policy loop-hole by saying they have ADD so they can take Adderall.
For those who don't know, Adderall is, I believe, 18% meth, which is the main active ingredient. That means MLB is giving their approval for a demographic of ballplayers to take methamphetamines. In this case, Torres is taking 40mg daily... that's 7.2mg of pure amphetamines!
Does Andres Torres really have ADD? That's not my call. But I will tell you, there's something fishy about a guy who claims he was diagnosed as a kid, struggled through all of his professional career -- which he now conveniently blames on the condition -- and recently, at the urging of coaches, has started to take medication for it, which has suddenly made him one of the best players in the National League.
I've heard some rather disgusting and disheartening rumors off the record over the past couple years. I've heard of teams requiring newly-acquired veterans to be "tested" for ADD as a contract stipulation as an attempt to prevent severe production drop-off. I've heard of older ballplayers grinding the stuff up and snorting it like cocaine. It really makes me frustrated.
So, I'd like to here what you guys think. And MODs, if you want to move this into its own separate MLB thread, be my guest. I just thought this fit better since it's Torres.

Lincecum's line tonight in SF versus the Cubs: 4 IP, 8 H, 6 ER
Not his best outing.

I wonder if this is why SF got Cody Ross - imagine how different things might look.

Actually, the reason the Giants got Cody Ross was to block the Padres from getting him on waivers.

Sad to say, but the celebration here 9 years ago was nothing like SF last night... Of course, waiting 55 years will do that...

Interestingly (but meaninglessly), the NL West took the first (2001 D-Backs) and last (2010 Giants) World Series championships of the decade...and no others.

Just because we didn't set anything on fire doesn't mean it wasn't a celebration in 2001.

I've never understood what burning things and celebrating have to do with each other, but oh well... quite a celebration.

It's insane here in the city. It made me rich today (bartending) because they couldn't fit any more people downtown-- and I serve in the Mission. But, hell, it's crazy. 3 hour wait just to buy something at the Giants Dugout stores. Where were all these fans the last 52 years? Forgot to buy a cap for your home team? The freeways are jammed, and, as the above picture suggests, idiocy abounds. I mean, I'm happy for my friends and the fans and the city... but, wow...

SF always seemed like a polar city to me, they either seem to focus on the Giants or the A's depending on who's winning at the time. How long have you lived up in the Bay?
