Tampa Rays are in town for an IL tilt.
I will make my 1st trip to Chase tonight to see Chris Archer and Robby Ray face off.

Archer has not had a very good season. His numbers in his last time out, against the Royals are a bit deceptive (8 hits, 5 runs [4 earned], 6ip). Most of the runs and hits were in the first couple of innings. The Royalscasters were saying that his struggles were due to him having a lot of starts against ALE opponents, teams that he does not face in ST. We will see how he does against a weak hitting NL lineup.

His numbers will likely be back to their normal low OBP self when the season ends, but at least for Baltimores sake they are getting the power that KT actually thought he was getting in that trade I guess.

Bert: "The Dbacks have momentum coming into this series with the win against Jake Arrieta"
Really? I think how bad the rest of the games against Houston and CHicago were negate that a bit

DeWayne Staats and Brian Anderson (former Dbacks Lefty) are the Rayscasters tonight
crowing about how the Rays creamed the twinkies in Minnesota, disregarding the fact that their record is the same as Atlanta, below .300.

Actually, it was 0-0 at the end of 6 innings and the comment from Rex Hudler as the Duffy was throwing the ball that would be a home run was really why I said that. That Trumbo is an ex-Dback is actually just incidental.
Then in my next post, I blamed him.

The win over the Cubs might be the thing that gets them going, but only time will tell. A sweep in this series might back up Bert's comment, but if they crap out again, then yesterday was only an oasis in the desert. And all was not sweetness and light yesterday as we got a win despite some serious baserunning mistakes.

Mikie Mahtook leads off. With a name like that, it's worth the look
1-0 high fly to Peralta, getting the first chance of the game welcoming him back.
Beckham: 0-2, favorable call on the inside. short humpback liner to Segura, 2 out
Longoria: 9 game hitting streak. swing and a miss down low 0-1. hits the low outside, doesn't get the call 1-1. same place, didn't get that call either 2-1. Rob Drake callin em.
outside 3-1. outside ball 4. Rayscasters saying Drake tends to have a smaller strike zone than most umpires.
LOMO: (Morrison) low and away 1-0. strike outside corner 1-1. way low 2-1. 6 strikes 8 balls so far. swing and a miss low and away slider out of the zone 2-2. in the dirt 3-2.
fouled to Rocco Baldelli coaching at first. strike 3 called at the knees. 9 strikes 9 balls 18 pitches, no runs.

The lineup we were given was wrong. Segura is leading off, Bourn batting second.

Segura: swing and a miss, chasing the Romo slider, 6 pitches. Broke half way through the left handed batters box.
Bourn: 0-2 takes 2 high to go 2-2. low and in 3-2. popped up to Longo in front of the 3b coaches box.
Goldy: 3 pitches low and away. Archer with the chicken act. strike outside corner. low ball 4. 8 strikes 9 balls.
Lamb: passed ball for Casali. Goldy to second. flat muffed it. 2-0. 3-0. ball 4 and this postage stamp sized strike zone is affecting both pitchers.

Beef: swing and amiss to go 0-2 on the Romo slider. 3-2 challenge fouled off. grounder to short, out at first, side retired. scoreless after 1
13 strikes 16 balls for Archer.

Souza
2-1 way low outside. outside again and called a strike 2-2. swing and a miss high heat
Jennings: shows bunt, takes high strike. foul 0-2. broken bat bouncer to Lamb. 2 out
Motter: broken bat dunker left center, single.
barrel ends up in front of Dbacks dugout
Casali: Rays getting runners on with 2 out. 2-0 both outside. grounds to Ahmed, force to Segura. So for all the crowing about this offense. Ray, even with struggles and mint-strike zone, has everything under control

Those last two swings for Tomas were ugly

Peralta: 2-1 in the dirt. low and in 3-1. fat puppy fouled deep left out of the reach of Mahtook. strike 3 called, Anderson says it's a "strike slider"
Tomas: swing and a miss too low 1-1. Anderson says he opens big holes with those huge swings. 1-2. strike 3 called low outside corner. swing at it in the dirt, let it go in the zone. embarassing AB.
Ahmed: bunts down third to the gold glover, Longo, who gloves it and gets him, not requiring a barehand. Just stuffed the bunt. after 2, no score

Wonder if he swung that way down in Cuba, and if our scouts saw that and signed him anyway.
