I see that Hale values the player who doesn't do much besides hit into "productive outs" in the #2 spot over the hitter that is actually good at hitting.

Hit by pitches still a subject in Pittsburgh after Vogelsong got his face smashed with a pitch on Sunday. AJ Schlugel called up to replace him.

We just don't have an experienced #2 spot hitter available. Anybody's guess who to put there.

I think Lamb is the best fit they have for that right now, but they don't give him many chances to get better against lefties.

There's no way Hale will bat him 2nd against the lefty Liriano, but maybe against Cole, Hale might try it. I tend to think Hale has Lamb hitting behind Goldy to try to give him some protection.
