Steve Gilbert @SteveGilbertMLB
#Dbacks will receive Sam McWilliams 20-year-old RHP from the #Phillies in exchange for Jeremy Hellickson.

Glad he's gone. He was getting expensive, and just not producing any results.
On a personal note, he was my least-favorite Dbacks pitcher to watch last year. Dude had no put-away stuff.
Of course, now that he's out of AZ, watch him put up a 110 ERA+ next year.

Not much of a return....but I guess you can't expect much for a guy that you are just as likely to non tender
So one year of well below average production from Hellickson and McWilliams for Anthony Velazquez and Justin Williams

That trade was complete crap from the get go. This one doesn't do anything to save it.

I can't blame them too much for giving Hellickson a shot looking for a bounce back after a bad year and an injury year. He did win ROY and a GG before that.

I can blame them plenty. Had they been using more advanced metrics they would have seen him for what he was all along, a mid 4's ERA guy that lucked into some low ERA in the earlier part of his career.

Hellickson was likely to be non tendered anyway, so just look at McWilliams like a low probability lottery ticket

Much appreciated, Justin. Kinda makes you wonder what's in the water in the GM's office in both locations, huh?
