So the wife has me update my trusty for years computer saturday night.

I went from Vista to windows 8 and the thing crashed and burned.

She went out and bought me a new computer today at costco and Im losing my mind with this windows 8 stuff.

I need help. Passwords, logins, old files, all gone.

Im too old and set in my ways. Im thinking of bagging the whole damn thing and going offline for good.

HELP ME!

Not sure if this will help, but worth reading. Worst case would be to relocate the old drive to the new computer to access the old files on it.

If you did an upgrade the windows.old folder should have all of your old stuff. If you can get it to start, even in safe mode, you could copy that directory to a USB stick or external hard drive and access it from the new computer.

Install classic shell to get the start menu back, when I was running windows 8 it worked well for me. Windows 7 would have been a better upgrade, and you may be able to do that with one or both of yours, depending on the versions that you have.

Windows 10 is coming out soon and from what I understand, your computer will upgrade automatically.

Your mean I will have to learn another pile of crap OS that also wont be compatible with all my printers and devices.

Its a scam I tell ya. A fricken scam!

It will do that if you opt in, and are running windows 7 or 8.1, but I don't recommend it since it cannot be undone.
Also there is no media player in Windows 10, so if you use that in 7 or 8 that's another reason to avoid it.

There are tons of free media players out there that are better than windows media player. VLC is a superior player for video files.

I meant Media Center, which I use to watch and record live TV using HDHomerun with cable card, no set top boxes. I hate the windows media player, and have been using VLC for several years.

Here's a sad story. I hit large today on Zach Johnson at 80-1.

Cant log onto my account because my login and password are on the fried computer!

At least the wife is taking my old computer to work and going to have the IT guys put my old files and info onto a thumb drive so I can put it all on this new computer.

The new computer is up and running.

I even got signed into my online wagering account and found my british open winnings right where they should be.

Last step I havent figured out yet. I have 14,000+ songs on my Iphone. If I download a new Itunes on the new computer it wont have my library of songs. How do I get the songs from my Iphone to my Itunes library on my new computer?

Found this, are you sure the IT guy didn't add them when he copied the other files?
