With our inept/underhanded City Council and only half of the County Board of Supervisors having a clue, along with a County Manager that's a complete idiot, these folks want to break off?

Look, I'm all for people being able to make decisions to determine their own destiny, it's the ideal this country was founded upon. But when it's completely reactionary, and not thought through...this doesn't make sense. One of the commenters mentions the area being open to commerce. What a crock that is, Tucson being one of the least friendly cities to business and investment. Witness the departure of spring training, which is a indicator of the attitudes down here. Oro Valley and Marana are getting it right...Tucson isn't. Rio Nuevo is another indicator of southern Arizona's exceptional management capability.

I understand that Maricopa County dominates state politics, some of it is justified, some isn't. But when we look at the performance of the folks that govern this city and Pima County...they do a piss poor job at it.

I'm not so sure that the good folks of Greenlee, Graham, Cochise, Pinal, Yuma and southern Maricopa counties want this group of malfeasant politicians making their decisions for them.

Can you imagine Walkup as a governor of a State? Huckleberry?

I can certainly understand how the folks down here feel dominated by the state gov't of the Kingdom of Maricopa, it's probably how the folks in the rural counties in California feel being dominated by the cities of LA and San Francisco, hence the State of Jefferson folks.

But it needs to be thought through a lot better than this.

Yet more political lunacy. Each day I lose more interest in politics.

The new "Baja Arizona" state flag?

Aboud put it in the soveriegnty bill as an amendment, and my dear State Senator Linda Lopez supported it.

It's just not some looney in with a blog, it's our state representation.

In all seriousness, it is a pointless effort; just like those who want Texas to secede.

Well speaking as one of those who would be in the potential "Baja, Arizona" state, this is just insane. I defer to the statements prior to this as reasons why (plus I have had too much wine to articulate this clearly tonight ). The leaders of Tucson are power hungry, short sighted idiots. I would seriously considering leaving this area if this came to fruition.

I could always move to Canada  Not that I would really want to since I have basically grown up here and have all my freinds in Tucson.

Time for Baja leaders to focus on job creation?
