The logo is almost ready to release, season tickets and weekend packages go on sale on Monday.

On that page it says the Tucson schedule has been released, but Im getting a kind of 404. Milb.com lists the team as the Tucson Padres.

On the Snakepit Kishi said that he recently read an article link that made it seem like they were just going to keep the name as Tucson Padres. Which makes sense in a way. Why create a new logo, uniform and name for just two years and then make up another one for Escondido? Hopefully, the Escondido plans fall through and we still get to keep the Padres.

Before anyone brings it up, Jay Zucker owns the rights to the name Toros, they wont be called that. In a related note, I wonder if this means the end to the Ind team? They originally said they would go on a one year hiatus but now its two years at least. If there is AAA ball here, an Ind team cant survive one way or the other.

I'm surprised JZucker is cock-blocking the use of the rightful Tucson nickname. Seems that both parties could make some money off the additional merchandising, and Zucker benefits from the added exposure of the brand.

Also, there is zero point of an IND league team with the presence of any minor league team with a MLB association.

Last, if Toros was not a consideration, what about Sidewinders? I imagine the Reno franchise retained those rights, but they might relinquish the rights under the right circumstances. Who knows. Just seems ridiculous that the fans get stuck with another nickname.

It would also help make a seemless transition to the IND League if they got the Toros.

I would love to see the Toros or Sidewinders. I dont see the Padres using the Sidewinders name with its ties to the Dbacks. I would like to see some team name/logo that reflects the area here.

Can I ask why in the world there is a topic in the Diamondbacks Farm section that is discussing the Triple-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres?

Because it is Tucson? The Toros thread is in that section and they are IND ball? I disagree with this decision.

edit- Ok, I get it. Maybe move the Toros thread also?

Terry Kennedy to manage. The Schedule is up and works on here. There is also a logo for the team now.

Terry and I used to attend the same Toastmasters club and he's a great guy. I wish him well in Tucson!

It's minor league - what are you expecting?

It's minor league, and it's for a team that is only going to be in Tucson for two years. I don't think they're going to spend a lot of time and effort marketing them.

There is still a chance that Escondido will fall through. The owners even said that they wouldnt mind AAA ball staying here.

Sweet April 15th is the first game here. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/sche ... p?sid=t549
It will be strange rooting for the Padres triple AAA team but I think I am shifting my money I spent on Dbacks over there.

Yeah I plan on catching some games. For me, I just love the game. It is obviously better to be able to watch the Dbacks, but that isn't possible now. So the next best thing? Watching the Padres for the two years (and maybe more) they are here.
Maybe us Tucsonians should plan to get together for a game or two?

Every time I see that logo when I scroll by quickly it looks like a cartoon hand is flipping the bird.

The chances of the team staying in Tucson for more than two years are slim and none...

POSTED: 9:10 pm PST December 15, 2010
UPDATED: 12:04 pm PST December 16, 2010

ESCONDIDO, Calif. -- Escondido City Council approved on Wednesday a plan to build a $50 million minor league baseball stadium in Escondido that would be home to the Padres' Triple-A baseball team.

The proposed, 9,000-seat ballpark would house the sixth Triple-A team to play within 60 miles of a major league counterpart. The five other minor league franchises are located near where the Atlanta Braves, Seattle Mariners, Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Phillies play.

Padres owner Jeff Moorad said he will now move forward to buy the Triple-A Portland Beavers and bring the minor team, not the name, to play in Escondido.

The stadium groundbreaking would likely happen in January of 2012 and could see action on the field by the spring of 2013.
