CHICAGO -- The BCS commissioners say they have come to a consensus on a model four-team seeded playoff that will be presented to the university presidents next week for approval.
The commissioners, who have been working on reshaping college football's postseason to create the first major college playoff, met for four hours and emerged together with a commitment to stand behind a plan. They were stingy, though, with providing details of that plan.
They said they were reluctant to share too many details before they had a chance to discuss them with their bosses, the university presidents. Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott did say the two semifinals would be worked into the existing major bowls.

I would have gone 8 teams....but this is better than nothing.

My consistent position since the beginning of the BCS was that it should be an 8-team tournament, with the existing 4 BCS bowls serving as the 1st round and the winners advancing to the College Football Final 4.
The conference champions from the Big10/Big12/Pac12/SEC should receive automatic bids to their traditional bowls, with 4 At-Larges chosen by the selection committee. The top 2 conference champions from the ACC/BigEast/ConfUSA/MWC should receive 2 of the At-Large bids; with the final 2 At-Large bids going to the best remaining teams not from the same conference (limiting number of teams from same conference to 2). The seedings should ignore the RoseBowl, since the matchup is pre-determined. However, the remaining 6 teams should be matched up as best as possible - (1v6/2v5/3v4) within the confines of the bowl tie-ins. A basic format would look like:
FiestaBowl: At-Large vs At-Large
OrangeBowl: Big12 vs At-Large
RoseBowl: Big10 vs Pac12
SugarBowl: SEC vs At-Large
Last season, based on the the regular season finish in BCS standings, my bowl matchups would have been:
FiestaBowl: Alabama (2) vs BoiseSt (5)
OrangeBowl: Oklahoma St (3) vs Stanford (4)
RoseBowl: Wisconsin vs Oregon
SugarBowl: LSU (1) vs VaTech (6)
Winners advance to the Football Final 4 at Cowboy Stadium...

Using the existing bowls as feeders to a Football Final 4 accomplishes a loose version of a 16-team playoff at the end of the season. Each conference - ACC/Big10/Big12/BigEast/ConfUSA/MntnWest/Pac12/SEC - will hold a conference championship game, with the top-6 winners plus 2 wild-cards advancing to the Bowls. They just have to let 4 teams play 1 or 2 more games after NewYearsDay. I don't think any of them will complain.

I HATE IT.
They are ruining the only true regular season in sports that really matters.
A selection committee?
Hell just go back to the old bowls and let the polls decide it. I love the arguing with Husker fans about the Dr. Tom sympathy vote and who the real Champion was in '97.

Last time I checked, ASU doesn't have any kind of hardware to confirm a championship in '97.

That's easy - the Arizona Wildcats. We all saw them beat Kansas, North Carolina, Kentucky, 3 straight blue-blood #1 seeds, for the first major championship in Arizona's history.
Too bad ASU couldn't have locked down a real title in football when they were good in the 70's...

When I was in the Taiwan around 1984-85 myself and few guys at work all chipped in for a subscription to The Sporting News.
It cost like 200 bucks a year to have it mailed to Taiwan...but it was a lifeline for keeping up with Baseball and US sports in general.

I have a hard time believing coaches that watched Osborne's Huskers go 60-2 over a five year span with two national championships won and a third barely lost in the final seconds had much "sympathy" for Mr Osborne.
That Husker run was just sick. They really should of won 4 titles in 5 years instead of the 3 they did win.

Where is that, Shadow? (I'm guessing Colorado - but that's rather a large state...) Colorado Springs?

The photograph alone is scary. I can't imagine looking out from my home, office, school, or university and seeing something like that coming over the hill.
