Not good...but not bad either. Atleast he ate the 8 innings. Now, hit the damn ball!!!

Maybe that will get Easley going. He's been struggling lately.

Even though he'll take the loss, this was better than a lot of the losses we face when our "other 4" have tossed us out of the game before the leave after 5 innings.

Still taking another day off from his injury the other day. Should be in the line up tomorrow according to the pre-game show.

It all comes down to Estrada getting a clutch hit...

While it doesn't show up in the score book, he did get an extra "earned run" when O-Dawg booted the double play and faced extra batters on Drew's boot as well.

It resulted in a run that inning.

Not a real solid outing by our D but the bats went cold and that was the biggest factor.

Many of Livan's outs via the fly ball were not real solid. Many were lazy fly balls.

I feel that Livan's maidan voyage as a D-Back was a very solid outing.

Heck, if he goes 8 innings and gives up 3 earned run on average I'll take that big time.

It looked like he ate a lot more than 8 innings. Maybe 8 innings, a few pies, and a lot of sammiches. He did a fine job though. I'd take a 4.50 ERA over the rest of the rotation.

Got to be the worst offensive production in awhile. I went through the schedule and while we lost 2 games scoring only 1 run in July, there were more hits in each one than this. Made Johnson look like ...

You mean if Livan turned into one of the best pitchers in baseball?

That's a little harsh, Rob. They did contribute 6 K's and a GIDP.

And now for something completely different: the view from the RF bleachers.

Of course, from way out there, it's hard to see what Hernandez was throwing; until some of the pitches came sailing our way, into the gap between RF and CF. (There was one fly hit to LF that it looked like Gonzo gave up on - but nothing new in that... Byrnes almost made it over to make the play on that one.) Let's see... At least 4 long flies into the RF/CF gap, according to my scorecard. Still, apart from the 7th, when the Fish got 2 runs, it would be hard to say that Hernandez wasn't getting his part done; but there sure were some bizarre plays in the infield...

And the bats weren't just cold -- it was as if they were in the arctic! About the best that can be said for our "big $ big guns" is that Gonzo managed to get a coupla walks after falling behind 0-2 on called strikes. Estrada and Green... feh. Get rid of 'em...

But my girls had a good time (and so did I, apart from the loss).

Thanks to Scott and to Shoewizard. Great to meet both of you!

OMG!! Guess who taught Livan his post-game quotes!

Hernandez: "I felt good. I made a mistake with Cabrera. I tried to throw the fastball up and he jumped at it. That was the ballgame right there. I think that was the only mistake I made."
Shocked

Thank goodness he pitches, fields, and hits better than Donut-Boy v1.0

Well...in his case...he was right. He really did make only one bad pitch.

Still.....topping out at 85 is not gonna cut it long term. Much harder to get the big K to get out of trouble when you need it. If you are going to pitch to contact, you are going to allow your share of basehits. You gotta be able to K somebody if you are not a groundball pitcher and are not going to get alot of DP's.

He will eat his innings...but we won't win many games he pitches.

And no way he'll win many (if any) games that the Dbacks score one supporting run. They'll need a minimum of five to give Livan a chance.... He's a temp solution at best to help save some wear & tear on the pen.

According to the AZ feed's gun he was throwing his real slow stuff at 61-65 and his fast stuff at 84-85.

Thats a pretty nice range and he did seem to fool a few hitters with the 85 mph fastball.

He's not Cy Young but a pretty good number two.

He kept us in the game and gave us solid chance to win plus he has very solid D and is a good offensive threat as a pitcher.

He was tossing meatballs all night long. I don't see how he eats innings in Chase when he faces major league baseball teams that can hit.
