You think the Diamondbacks will go ahead and make another move for a starter or stick on of our youngsters in after Mulder? Yay! 100th post!

I nominate allstar for the first annual DBBP Cart Before the Horse Award.

Dude, don't get me wrong, I don't think having Mulder here would be a bad gamble. I just don't think concentrating on it to such a degree will have any effect on whether or not it happens. Laughing

That's because he can't hit his curve.

Derrick Goold / St. Louis Post-Dispatch wrote:
In a week of whirlwind courtship, he got the red-carpet treatment in Texas and glimpsed what life as a Ranger in the Dallas area is like. He returned home to receive an offer from the Arizona Diamondbacks and a call from the Cleveland Indians.

But lefthanded pitcher Mark Mulder is taking this weekend off from free agency.

He has a prior commitment.

A Cardinal the past two seasons, Mulder will marry Lindsey Pringle this afternoon in Scottsdale, Ariz., and the notion that he wanted to pick a team before he wears the ring was false, his agent said Friday.

Arizona, San Diego and Texas, which has come on strong, have emerged with the Cardinals as favorites in the pursuit of Mulder. San Francisco and Cleveland have also expressed interest.

Location is the question.

Contract duration is not.

Gregg Clifton, the lefty's representative, said he and Mulder have decided that a two-year deal is most attractive to the lefty, who is coming off shoulder surgery and will not be available to pitch for the first several months of the coming season. According to a report in the Arizona Republic, the Diamondbacks offered a five-year deal and will not have to tweak it to meet Mulder's preference.

Several of his suitors have to refigure their proposals to fit the two-year model Mulder finds most agreeable. Clifton expects to hear from Arizona shortly. He knows the Cardinals are ready, even eager, and he does not want the process to drag on.

Mulder just wants a couple of days to do something else.

"Mark is anxious to get it over. After everything this week, we wanted to give everybody a chance to revise their proposals," Clifton said. "I'll still be in touch with Mark. He's going on his honeymoon, but he's not going to the moon."

A 5 year deal with only the 1st year guaranteed and team options after that. Sounds very safe and reasonable to me. Get it done Josh. A healthy Mulder combined with Webb ... I see back to back WS titles in 2008 and 2009 with those two at the top of the rotation.

Sounds like Mulder prefers a 2-year deal.

No biggee... You did get my hopes up..

I know others dont agree, but i am really hoping he does choose to come here.

I just think Webb, Livan, Davis, Mulder, Edgar would make a damn good rotation - and if this trade for otsuka goes though - some combo of Otsuka, VV, Julio, Cruz, Viscaino, Pena, Slaten, Meddars, Etc - would be damn good as well.

i really hope mulder doesn't come here. i just don't think he's ever going to be mulder again. what's the realistic best case scenario with him? league average with moments of brilliance? just enough of a tease that the team keeps using the option on him, but he never quite comes back? pass. let's pay 300K for league average. that way, anything above is truly gravy, and there's no painful "oh what could have been" stigma with it.

Well, if league average ERA is about 4.5 - i think he can do better than that.. He HAS been better than that in all but last year and his rookie year...

3.91 ERA career after neutralized

I think it would be better to take the money we're throwing at Mulder, and use it to sign a true impact pitcher instead. Just don't see Mulder ever being dominant, and us having to pay big $ for somebody just good enough. I'm confident that we could find 300 innings @ 4.5-5.0 ERA between the Gonzalez' & Nippert/Owings, while paying league minimum. Save the cash for a dominant #1.
