Snakes need to start winning before the Dodgers run away with the Division...

Yikes... So Dbacks "need" to start winning... and Hank begins the game thread.

From the DBacks website:

Claudio Vargas, RHP (9-8, 5.30)
Jeff Francis, LHP (9-9, 3.44)

Scouting Report:

Vargas earned the win in his last start on Aug. 6 against the Astros as he gave up a pair of earned runs on six hits over six innings. Vargas was able to keep the ball down, which is the key to his success.

Francis held the Dodgers to one earned run in 7 1/3 innings on Wednesday night, and he has a 1.82 ERA since July 1. Francis was especially tough with traffic, catching a runner trying to steal home and wiggling out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam with just one run scoring on a sac fly. The four walks were deceiving -- three were intentional. Francis is 5-4 with a 3.02 ERA this season at Coors Field.

Don't recall us doing very well against him, however.

What a great day to start both Quentin and Hairston. BoMel, can you hear me? No Green or Gonzo today.

Who wants to bet that all our lefties (Gonzo, Green, Tracy) are all in the lineup together tonight...as Q and Hairston sit on the bench going "Why did he swing at THAT?"

Someone pointed out that Gonzo has not sit since his hissy fit. He could use some 'rest'

Prior to this season, Jeff Francis has been a D Back killer

Between 2003-2005 he had 7 starts against the snakes and went 5-0 with a 3.63, including 2-0 with a 4.71 in 4 starts at the BOB

This year he is 0-1 with a 7.20 ERA vs the D Backs in 2 starts, including a no decision on April 12th where he went 5.2 IP and gave up 3 ER

So THIS years version of the D Backs has had some success off him.

Lets hope it continues.

I was just thinking about that. Every road trip. The Snakes are on a Plane... to Col/SD/SF/LA/etc.

And when the plane lands and is pulling up to the gate, the guy/lady on the mic should say "I want these motherfuckin snakes off this motherfuckin plane!!"

Well, Evil, it is a Vargas start, so you have to cut me a little slack.

Considering what happened to Webb during the start that you began the game thread, it's SCARY to think what could happen in Colorado with Vargas on the mound:

I didn't start that gameday thread. Driaz started it trying to be nice to me. I cannot be blamed for Webb's misfortunes. I have always avoided Webb starts just for that reason...

No, but seriously, Hank: I'm pullin' for ya! Here's hopin' the new board does, in fact, mean new mojo for you.

I hope so. I am afraid if I lose many more you guys may sentence me to three hours in a room with Brian D from the AZ Central board as punishment...

No, it's worse than that! You'll be optioned outright to the azcentral board, and the only place you'll be allowed to post is at that site...
