So glad Q's in RF tonight.
Julio's such a gascan. He better not be here next season. |

I've had enough of seeing Cabrera hurt us...how about a 6-4-3 ?

I call them "clean saves" when they get em 1-2-3 in the ninth but I don't know if that stat is kept anywhere. |

Schultz
Seriously....looking at this guys numbers... 1.63 career WHIP heading into this year...and no improvement that I can see in 2006.
I always wondered why they kept so many relievers on the 40 man.
|
That is so true. I remember looking at the 40 man like a year and a half ago and asking myself, who the fuck is Mike Schultz?????

Man....Julio is just not a 1-2-3 guy, is he?
I wonder how many 1-2-3 innings he has had. |
He definitely keeps things exciting.

Closers what throw pitches in the dirt and bounce 'em past the catcher with a man on first... add to my collection of grey hairs in a most unpleasant way...

He wouldn't give Jacobs a free pass to set up a force and bring up Willingham as the tying run, would he (BoMel)? |

I suppose it makes sense if you're going to keep Melvin around and let him run the bullpen.

That was really a "MUST" win from alot of different angles.
Gotta stay close in the standings...of course.
Nice of the team to pick up Webby
Chance to win this series the tmw.

In case anyone was curious, Brian Bruney has now appeared in 8 games in Columbus (AAA-Intl) and has lowered his ERA to 3.18. 11 innings pitched, 8 walks, 18 K's. 1 save. I haven't found any minor league stats on the net that show any blown saves |

Now we cross our fingers that Webb's arm feels fine the next couple days. |

Well aint that a kick in the nuts.
Still too many walks though. When he gets back to the majors...he'll still get killed.

Shoe, I thought you looked at the roster composition at that time and concluded that the roster was consistent with other teams. I'm sure the thinking was that Schulz, a hard thrower and high draft choice IIRC could contibute and was a prospect while Uggla was not.
I liked Uglla from the fall league. I had him in my top 10 prospects at one time. But sometimes you make the wrong choice. I doubt if Uggla was enough on the radar that he would have won a job in ST. We'll also have to see how his career progresses. |

It sure was nice to see the bats come alive tonight.
Much better than yesterday's game.
Webby wasn't the Webby we are used to seeing.
He was pretty wild and got the ball up too often but i'm sure that he was just working off the rust. |

Good memory....kind of.
There were other teams with as many relievers...we were not unique in that regard....but there were alot of teams that carried fewer pitchers on the 40 man.
I think the point (or question) was always why so many relievers.
I tried to search for that thread...but couldn't find it.

I don't know but if I were to guess it would be that a team burns through pitchers faster than position players and that pitchers are harder to project. Just a guess.
I sent you an e-mail. |

Digger Phelps, on the FSNAZ postgame show, said, of CQ, "He hasn't seen a pitch he won't swing at" (or words to that effect).
What an idiot. If Phelps had been talking about Estrada, sure. But Quentin has an eye for the strike zone that seems on a par with CoJack's. Duh! That's how you get to have a hitter's count at 2-0; and then get a pitch you can hit for a triple RBI triple...
Speaking of Estrada, somebody here a while back hung the nick of "Ponce" on him. (Obviously, I thought it was a good one -- or else it wouldn't have stuck with me.) Anybody recall who it was?

It may have been Pete Rose who said it, I don't know:
"I don't care if it's a ball or a strike. If I can hit it, I'm going to hit it" (meaning get a hit out of it) |
