I wouldn't mind seeing him back next year for his power bat, his defense at first base, and his veteran leadership. But does his signing block somebody else who is more important to the team? What do others think about this? |

If they can sign him to a very cheap contract I wouldnt mind, but if hes asking for anything more than $1,000,000 let him go.
I do agree that he has been a positive influence in the clubhouse and is probably partly responsible for the way some of the young guys have been playing. |

He can be a positive influence on the clubhouse as a bench coach.

If the price is right, anything for TC.
He's been way more than just the guy off the bench.
He is the guru of the club house and is such a postive guy to have.

If would be for a resigning if it didn't cost us much, and didn't block anyone....
He will be a good coach / manager if and when he retires... |

I'm personally very tired of seeing him in the field for nearly every game from the eighth inning on. He's too much BoMel's PV toy in my opinion.

I really don't like him at the starting lineup but his presence in the bench seems to be helping this young players.. well at least that's what I think
They should resign him for one year/ $ 1 mill..

No. He just isn't productive. Coming off a 59 OPS+ last year in 147 PA, he's posted an 85 OPS+ this season in 170 PA. That's just awful stuff for a guy with no defensive value. He can't hit LHP (.645 OPS); he can't hit on the road (.491 OPS); he can't hit as a starter (.694 OPS). His only value is as a PH in Chase against RHP.
He is an empirically bad baseball player. Make him a coach if he's an asset in the clubhouse, but that money and that roster spot can be put to better use. Re-signing Clark means that he will start a bunch of games and he hurts the team in that role both on the field and in taking those starts from Chad Tracy or Conor Jackson. His 3 PH HR this year aren't worth what it's cost the team. |

Would he fit as a hitting coach?
How many assistant coaches are you allowed to carry anyways?
Melvin; and Gibbie, Hale, TC, and Matt Williams?
I wonder if that would just be too many ex-players and not a well-rounded enough group to assist the manager and players in all facets.

Matt's managing Mobile, at least for the short term.

If he wants to retire and become a coach for the D-Backs, then I'd be all for it. But as a player, no thanks. |

Teams are allowed seven non-playing personnel in uniform--manager, bench coach, first and third base coach, hitting instructor, pitching coach, and bullpen coach. The Red Sox got in trouble from the league when they were one coach (Johnny Pesky) over the limit.

Any word on Schu and whether he'll be reassigned?

Should Arizona resign Tony Clark?
Yes, a forced resignation effective immediately. |
