Twins traded IF Jeff Cirillo to the Diamondbacks for an undisclosed minor leaguer.
For a team that's still in contention, the Twins sure don't act like it. Losing Luis Castillo and Cirillo won't crush their chances by any means, but it's still odd for a team within striking distance of a playoff spot to part with veteran hitters when their offense needed more help to begin with. Cirillo will serve as a bench bat for the Diamondbacks.

Why would D-backs need Cirillo ?
D-backs have Ojeda and Callespo (in AAA).
If cirillo is added to 40 man roster, who is going out ?

A poor man's Morgan Ensberg? Yeah, I'd take him over Ojeda. |

We desperately need another right-handed batter. |

We acquired a 37-year old right handed batting third baseman who's hitting .261/.327/.386 this season in 153 AB's?
Gotta be more to the story... |

Seriously? Can our Tucson folks tell us if Chris Carter is the player? Cirillo is not much of a fielder any more. He's just old and often hurt. He has played exactly 106 innings at 3rd this year. He hasn't made an error yet, but seriously... the Twins played Punto over him for a reason. |

color this guy a little confused.
I hope that minor leaguer is of little consequence.

Ojeda's numbers are all equal to or better than Cirillo's...
Among other things, this suggests the FO is really down on Callaspo...

I can't imagine it was carter...if it was, the twins just committed highway robbery, in my mind.

Cirillo is pretty much ready to retire, so he's no great loss to MN. The big quesiton is, what did the D-backs give up? |

I guessing that Reynolds gets optioned or Tracy is DL'd. Since Cirillo is an RHB, I'd put money on the former. Honestly, this is a good move. Shoewizard showed Reynold's stats since his hot streak and they have been abysmal. They can't put up with Reynold's 60 or so OPS+ anymore. |

Why not use D'antona ?
I am still worried, who did D-backs give up ..?
Twins have a history of Robbery/Heist of trades..

I'm gonna retract my Ensberg comp since he still has pop and Cirillo doesn't. Decent K:BB ratio though. |

So the Padres get Ensberg, and we get Cirillo. Great.
My guess is Carter was the one to go. Do the twins need a lefty DH? |

D-backs claim Cirillo off waivers
LOS ANGELES -- The D-backs claimed infielder Jeff Cirillo from the Twins on Friday.
The 37-year-old was hitting .261 with nine doubles, two homers and 21 RBIs in 50 games for the Twins while playing first and third base as well as some time at designated hitter.
Cirillo began his Major League career with the Brewers in 1994, and in 1,589 career Major League at-bats, he has a .297 batting average.
When Cirillo reports, the D-backs will have to make room on their 25-man roster for him. |

That means that D-backs didn't give up anyone ...?

I think that is right - as it was a waiver "claim", they just pay his salary. Someone needs to come off the 25 man roster though.
