good hire, imo. (good fire too!)

i feel bad for seitzer, he seemed genuinely interested in the development of the hitters. Too bad he sucked.

I like getting Shu in there for the time being. The players we need hitting should be comfortable with him.

Seitzer knows hitting, but he'd be better on a more veteran, grittier team. He just didn't relate to young, talented players.

Baseball is a results oriented industry, and Seitzer's results were abysmal.

Seitzer can talk the talk, but he couldn't walk the walk.

I also think Seitzer has a low IQ.

WOW. Just wow.

So many things to say.

Kudos to JB for pulling the trigger. I think it had to be done.

Kudos to Levsk and Shoe - who knows if the "open letter" and Seitzer threads had any influence at all, but it sure put alot of thoughts together into a nice, neat package that summarized everything you/we were seeing.

Hopefully it has the effect we are thinking it will. If not - then what?

The open letter had no effect. The section about Seitzer was poorly written; the section about trading Hudson was much better.

OK, well... i got somewhat confused. While i still like the open letter part on Seitzer, the other thread (Started by Shoe) was really what i was thinking of. oops.

Interesting move here with Quentin in Tucson. Also will be interesting to see if there are any roster moves based on their new coaches philosophies.

Article on Seitzer's firing on the Dbacks website

Quote:
PHOENIX -- With their offense stuck near the bottom of the National League, the D-backs dismissed hitting coach Kevin Seitzer on Wednesday and replaced him with Rick Schu.

Seitzer, 45, was hired by Arizona last October to replace Mike Aldrete despite not having any previous professional coaching experience. Schu and Dave Hudgens were the other candidates for the position.

Seitzer's teachings seemed to resonate with players this spring. He drew wide praise for his optimism and ability to tweak a batter's mechanics, and the D-backs led the Majors in on-base percentage with a .389 mark and runs scored with 226 in March. The club also led the league with a .314 batting average.

The regular season, though, was a different story. Arizona has struggled to put together consistent offense throughout the year and entered the second half ranked 14th in the NL in batting average (.248), 13th in on-base percentage (.316), 12th in runs scored (371) and 10th in slugging percentage (.401).

The struggles by the team's young hitters certainly played a role in the decision. The team was counting on production from a core of young players -- Stephen Drew, Conor Jackson, Carlos Quentin and Chris Young -- who showed signs of their potential last season.

This year it's been a struggle for them. Drew is hitting just .242, Jackson .266 and Young .233, and Quentin's .210 batting average earned him a demotion to Triple-A just before the All-Star break.

This will be Schu's second stint in the position, having previously served as hitting coach in 2004. He did not have his contract renewed at the end of that season and returned to his role as the organization's hitting coordinator.

Seitzer had a successful big-league career, as he posted a .295 batting average over 1,439 games and drew praise for his work with the Mac-n-Seitz Baseball and Softball Company, which he founded in Kansas City along with former teammate Mike MacFarlane.

The company provided instruction to the public, but Seitzer also worked with several high-profile Major Leaguers. One of them, Seattle's Raul Ibanez, called the D-backs on Seitzer's behalf during the interview process.

but, wasn't the 04 season an offensive mess? that's the same schu at the helm, isn't it? although, he's still been with the dbacks organization in a related capacity since then... is it strange that he's batting coach again, after not having been having his contract renewed the first time?

please explain... Confused

Hey, guys, I just heard the owners (KenKen and Company) aren't happy with Tracy and Jackson. I think they could be traded by the end of the trading deadline.
