I'll take Miggy ( 10-5, 4.67 ) over Young (9-5, 3.80 ).

Let's load the lineup with lefties and take it to 'em.

"Miguel Batista (10-5, 4.67 ERA) looks to win his fifth straight decision and tie a career high for wins when he starts for the Diamondbacks. He had 11 victories in 2001 during his first stint with Arizona.

Since Batista lost three straight starts from June 9-20, Arizona has been nearly unstoppable with the right-hander on the mound. He's gone 4-0 with two complete games and a 4.18 ERA in his last 10 outings, and the Diamondbacks have gone 9-1.

He has not faced the Padres this season, and is 3-3 with a 3.49 ERA in 20 appearances, including nine starts, against them.

Batista started against Colorado on Tuesday and gave up a run and seven hits over six innings in a 2-1, 18-inning victory.

San Diego's Chris Young (9-5, 3.80) will face Arizona for the first time as he looks for his first win in four starts. In three chances this month for his 10th win, Young is 0-1 with a 5.63 ERA.

The Padres have scored just four runs in Young's starts this month, but he's also given up 17 hits and walked 10 in 16 innings.

Against San Francisco on Tuesday, Young gave up two runs and six hits over six innings but did not get the decision in a 3-2 loss.

"Tonight, I threw the ball pretty much where I wanted it," said Young, who added his mechanics were better compared to recent starts. "On the whole, I was relatively pleased with the way I pitched." "

Let's start it off by taking this game and then going to San Fran to sweep the Giants who are reeling.

What does Melvin do? Throw a pack of baseball cards up in the air and whichever way they land---that's today's line-up? Does anyone but Brynes ever bat in the same position twice in a row? When I was growing up I was a Dodger fan (I know, I've already gone to confessional) and they had the same batting order for like a decade. Wouldn't the players feel more comfortable if they knew everyday before they came to the park where in the order they were going to be hitting?

My conscience is clear, at least. I haven't purchased a ticket since Q's debut.

is the plan to play gonzo non-stop until he turns to dust? that way, no hissy fits and a good reason to start a rookie in his spot? maybe, just maybe melvin's onto something here...

Watched the Giants play the Dodgers last night, and they played like the San Jose Giants. I should rightly expect a sweep when our boys come here

I can see no reason for leaving Q on the bench today.

Keeping the mets interested in Green? (Although having him play could only hurt his value at this point)

I cringed when i saw the highlights of milledges game last night...

Lindsay feels that we need some positive board mojo in order to keep the Padres bats on ice.

I'm going to guess the Mets are more worried about their rotation.

If Omar wanted Green, he'd already have him.

If he's been paying attention and has a brain in his head he DOESN'T want Green anymore!

Don't bother paying attention, Byrnes. Your fake hustle makes up for actual performance.

Thom inserts foot in mouth

"Young does not have a good pickoff move"

I was just going to say, at a minimum if all the players in the lineup MUST play today, at least Byrnes and Drew should be flip flopped, with my ideal lineup assuming we have to have Gonzo and Green in it, would be:

Young
Drew
Gonzo
Jackson
Tracy
Estrada
Green
Hudson

Byrnes than leads off the game with a single, but subsequently gets picked off. Mad

He doesn't...Byrnes was just inept on the basepath.

Seriously, Piazza is SOOO bad defensively, the crowd goes crazy after he has to dive for a pop ball three feet away from home plate.
