1. Brandon Webb
2. Randy Johnson
3. Livan Hernandez
4. Doug Davis
5. ???

I hope we sign Doug Davis to an extention or Livan Hernandez. At least one of them.

For Lev's sake, why not make option J available in all polls?

FWIW, I think Owings will earn the job. Just my (big) gut.

I think Eveland has the most promise out of Owings, Nippert and the Gonzalez's. I just don't see Edgar being able to turn it around from his recent pitching in the majors in a matter of months, then again Eveland hasn't faired great in the majors but with less opportunity.

I think RJ will take the tall, lanky Nippert under his wing and help him work out some of his delivery problems...and Nippert will get some confidence and finally take it to the next level...

nippert is a weird case. i wonder if he could relieve, just because i get the sinking feeling his clock's going to force him a roster spot for 08 before he puts it all together. how do you suppose he'd do in that role?

So who's forced on the roster this year? EdGonz I'm positive about, Nippert is? EnGonz? I think the math leaves Owings in AAA to start '07. Doubt he ends the season there though.

Well, we should be picking #4 and #5, since RJ won't be ready for the start of the year.

So we'll have two spots for auditioning, at least for April

Owings beginning '07 in Tucson doesn't necessarily sound like a bad thing to me -- unless he's just totally "lights out" in his spring training stints.

I think the same is true for Eveland; short of a strong ST, he'll begin the season in Tucson.

My guess is that EdGon and EGon have the best shot to start the season with the Diamondbacks.

But having Nippert, Owings, and Eveland in the wings should someone falter is a good position to be in, no? Very Happy

I think Edgar is the best choice for the #5 spot. I actually can't believe I'm saying that. For the past few years, the player that I disliked the most was Edgar. He was absolutely horrible up until last year. He seems to have turned it around though. Now he has better stuff, more control, and a much better mental makeup.

I don't think Owings is ready so another year in AAA would be best, although I could see him come up mid-season and take over the closer role (he has the perfect bulldog mentality to be succesful in that role). Nippert could put it all together and be dynamite, but more than likely not quite yet. And I think Enrique would be better suited for the bullpen even though I love his stuff. I don't know enough about Eveland to have an opinion, but from what I hear I like his potential. Spring Training will definitely be interesting.

Owings isn't on the 40 man roster.

Edgar is out of options, he needs to stick. Nippert and Eveland and Enrique have at least one option each.

It'd be nice to discover we have a couple guys that can fill in for Livan and Davis by the end of the year, and maybe not have to resign either. We could use that cash to sign Westbrook or something.

Well considering everything I've read about him says he still has problems with his pickoff move and throwing to 1st, I would say he is probably not an ideal reliever unless he has worked that out.

Probably a long shot to make the rotation, but I think he still has the highest upside of anyone on the current list...

Nippert needs to pitch his ass off in Tucson, and force himself to the front of the line again when there is a callup opportunity. And when he gets his next opportunity, he better do something with it.

If the D Backs are in the race come the trade deadline, and Nippert is underperforming again, look for him to be part of some trade deadline deal the D Backs might make to bolster the team for a stretch run......if they are in it that is.

You know the FO is seeing visions of John Patterson all over again. I'm really hoping that he figures it out, gets a little consistency, and forces his way onto the big club. Otherwise, yeah, he's gone. And some other team gets our guy that has gone through his growing pains, and is finally somewhat consistent.

I think Edgar will win it. He seems to be pitching well right now, and has some good stuff. I'd like to see Nippert reach his once very high potential, but i'm not sure if its going to happen. He's so tall and throws so hard, just needs some accuracy. Micah will not win the job. No how, no way will that happen. Micah won't even be in the majors. To be honest, at the earliest i think we'll see him..september.

I like Edgar gonzalez, though he had a small sample size last year the fact that all but one of his starts was a quality start was very re-assuring. I see him being a very capable starter, and with any luck he will surprise us and show he is much better then a five starter.

Enrique strikes me as more of a juan Cruz type long relief spot starter type, and he could get pushed more into that roll with RJ being added to the team and only one more starter being needed.

Coming out of spring though with RJ likely out for a bit to start the season due to his back recovery, I see Enrique getting smoe starts in the early part of the season.

I'm hoping that each year from now on we can work one of our own into the starting rotation, til we've filled at least three spots behind Webb.

This year it's EdGon in the 5 spot. Over the next two years we lose Livan and RJ, and can hopefully work 2 of the Nippert, Owings, and EnGon mix into the group, maybe another. A slow and steady progression of our starting prospects into the rotation over the next 4 yrs would be awesome.

I'm actually hoping someone better than those guys comes along.

I am hoping that one of the guys drafted over the last couple of years might be an ace qualitypitcher. Whatever happened to Max Scherzer anyhow?

I have a feeling he might not get signed.

Yeah, I'm worried about Scherzer, too. It seems to be taking way too long. What's the difference between offer and demands? They can't be that far apart.

Obviously I'd like another ace to come through the system, but it'd be nice to eat innings at league average ERA for league minimum salary for a couple years. Figure a decent over/under is being able to fill 3 spots for cheap, league average production, and sign 2 ace type pitchers.

Ace pitchers have to come from somewhere... It'd be nice if the Diamondbacks could find and develop several more from within the farm system. Home-grown is almost always better'n store-bought! Smile
