|
|
His reaction to the Zito signing:
Quote: |
Former A's outfielder Eric Byrnes, who now plays for Arizona and will face Zito often, predicted Zito will do well in San Francisco.
"People have got to be thinking about the Giants as the favorites now," Byrnes said. "They had a chance to separate themselves from everyone else in baseball with their moves this offseason and they did. Now that they have the two Barrys, this absolutely puts them over the top. Everyone in the NL West will be shooting at these guys." |
SF Gate
Way to run up the white flag and help instill confidence in the young players on the team there Eric.
Seriously, what is the crap, declaring the Giants the division favorites?
This is no way for a guy that is being kept around for his veteran presence to "lead".
Not to mention his "analysis" is all wet.
Hey Eric....news flash: It aint 2002-2003 anymore. Zito aint the same pitcher he was a few years ago.

He's taking his cue from Gonzo this year? Good grief, why didn't we trade EByrnes back to the Bay since that's obviously where he'd rather be.
Giants the favorite? His analysis is as contrived as his somersaults.

Has to make you wonder what he is on. The Giants yes have made small improvements but this team finished 1/2 game out of last and the Dodgers and Pads both made changes as well. I do not see how these moves "absolutely" put them over the top at all. Not sure I want new my team leader to be making these off the wall comments like this. |

What would possess that moron to say that about a division rival? Especially since the logic is just not there.
Maybe Byrnes is Ruckel? |

If this is what it means to say, "veteran leadership," give me a team full of rookies.
Eric Byrnes must be traded!

I think he's just saying more about his former teammate than the Giants. But it is funny that he didn't mention the Dodgers as being Division champs seeing how they just added Schmidt.
But I think with Zito's weaker-than-average fastball and reliance on off-speed/breaking stuff, the ball's going to get pulled down the left field line into no-man's land (Where Barry is), and a lot of extra bases are going to be taken.

Hmm!
Is this the same Byrnes that was looking for an extension and never got one?
Just wondering if this could be his last year here? Perhaps he travels to the Giants to replace Barry at the end of this year in LF?
I like Byrnes.
Can someone explain to me why the DBacks have not made an effort to go after him long-term? |

Carlos Gonzalez. Not to mention the fact that Scott Hairston desserves a shot this year.

Now that you bring up Scott Hairston, I wonder where he will land this year. Hopefully he won't be a part of that Yankees deal. |

Why didn't the D'Backs sign EB long term... Hummm, maybe because
he's a bum, not to mention and easy out and showoff..
Best trade would be to Baltimore or Washington.. Hummm how far
is that from SF.. |

Eric Byrnes has personality. Flare.
He has already played in Baltimore right?
If he is a bum and a show-off, why deal him so far from the City? |

I wonder what's going to happen when Conor and CQ, tell him he can't change in the team's locker room. Poor Byrnesie, maybe he'll have more fun this year rooting for the Giants from the stands. Total bullshit there.
