What about Cargo, Owings, Nippert. I Dont think they need a 3B or 1B? I think they would want OF? They may be the kind of team to have interest in Carter as well...
Guess i really dont want to change my name after all... |

The only FA out there who could play 3rd and put up decent numbers is Huff. |
Huff is a poor defender at 3rd, and will cost 8 million a year
|
like i said - they arent nec good options... just the guys who are available (that i could think of)

Yeah, changed my mind. The timing of this deal isn't right. After next year, yes, but not now. The org has already put up the big "rebuilding flag", so we'd be better really slashing payroll than moving prospects to compete in a year we won't be competing. If anything, we should be peddling Byrnes and Hudson, as well as anybody else making any $, for any arm in return.
Or, subscribing to the buy lo/sell hi, isn't now the time to move whatever pitching we have? A guy like Nippert/Owings/Gonzalez' would have to worth quite a bit given the current cost of pitching, and probably more than we could ever get for them.
And I also say stay away from Oakland in trades.

That made me laugh. I always worry about the stamp when I start speculating on stuff.

I agree with the assessment of never dealing with Oakland, which is why at the beginning of the post I predicted he'd cost a lot more that CJ, Nippert & Owings.
I don't agree that the timing is off for a deal like this. We'd get Haren for 4 years on the cheap. This deal works for us through 2010. |

I think that's a little too much for Haren. And I too agree to avoid trades with Oakland. |

a trade for haren won't happen because both teams need too much the pieces that would go into that trade, for their current teams.
haren should've been acquired two years ago. i was advocating a trade for him a long time ago. but jerry colangelo wanted richie's big stick instead.
anyhow, beane will probably trade haren eventually... but he isn't going anywhere this offseason. |

I agree. I can't see them intentionally losing Zito & Haren in the same offseason. Oakland works on a strict budget and Haren is cheap, for his talent, and tied up for the next 4 years. Trading him for anything less than FT Knox this offseason wouldn't make sense. |
