I hate it, too.
There's got to be more to this...

Ah yes, the sky is falling in. Let's just wait out and see what else is going to happen. You think this is it? Probably not. |

I'm sure Scotty's feeling real great. He got traded for a tiple-A dude that hasn't played in two months ... and a bag of magic beans. |

I've stayed out of the Scotty debate, but frankly I like CQ better. He's both youner and cheaper and honestly has more up side than Scotty did. Like always, I could be wrong and I hope I am, as long as scotty isnt playing against us.

True. But the log jam had to be broken and ever since the start of spring training we've known Scott was the odd man out. Dbacks lost faith in him and I suspect the five starts in a row was to highlight him for another team. I'm not convinced SD is his final destination.

This sucks.
We all know that scotty's future in AZ would be for only 1 more year.
Because once CG and Upton become regulars in major league, there would be no place for scotty.
But i thought he would be sent anywhere but NL West.
This is puzzling.
We got some unknown AAA pitcher in return.
May be JB knows something, that we do not.
Uggla and Hairston, will keep reminding us for the next 10/15 years, how stupid FO has been. |

Rotoworld's take:
Quote: |
Scott Hairston - OF Jul. 27 - 7:15 pm et
Padres acquired outfielder Scott Hairston from the Diamondbacks for RHP Leo Rosales.
The Padres were supposedly after a name power bat, but they went cheap here, getting the 27-year-old Hairston. We still believe in Hairston's bat, but he was a major disappointment after getting a chance this year, hitting .222/.301/.358 in 176 at-bats for the Diamondbacks. The Padres will use him as a bench player and pinch-hitter. He's out of options, so putting him in the minors isn't an option.
Related: Diamondbacks
Leonel Rosales - R Jul. 27 - 7:14 pm et
Diamondbacks acquried RHP Leo Rosales from the Padres for outfielder Scott Hairston.
This would seem to clear the way for Carlos Quentin to rejoin the Diamondbacks. Diamondbacks GM Josh Byrnes seemed to believe in Hairston, but carrying him as a reserve just didn't work out and sending him back to Triple-A was impossible. In return for Hairston, the Diamondbacks get a decent relief prospect. Rosales, 26, had a 3.28 ERA and 14 saves in 27 2/3 innings for Triple-A Portland. His fastball is mediocre, so he's not viewed as much more than a middle reliever. |

Well, that might actually piss me off more, if he ends up being a piece for some SD trade instead of a peice for a Diamondback trade.

Like I said before, Hairston could be a piece in a deal to get Loretta from the Astros. That rumor's been batted around for quite a bit. |

Well, I guess it's time for us all to commit mass suicide.
But seriously, this is not a big deal. Yes it's lame that Scotty was traded to SD for what'll probably amount to crap, but what did we expect to get for him? His stock was just so low. I'm very happy for Scott, and I hope he does well, just not against the Diamondbacks.
So let's look at the bright side guys. Scotty, a local product has finally been sent to team where he actually has a chance to play. the log jam is free, and it makes it a lot clearer what the outfield will look like next year. Chris Young, Carlos Quentin, and some combination of Justin Uptin, Jeff Salazar, Alex romero. And now it's possible to put one of the CI in left field.
This could also mean the Dbacks are looking to acquire a reliable stopgap until the Justin Upton era begins

Partly PR since Q's bobblehead day is tomorrow... and Scotty may finally be "free" (or at least not be expected to pinch bunt for people now)

The Diamondbacks may have gotten themselves a very good future relief pitcher. San Diego is loaded with pitching and had a logjam at that position. Both teams worked on easing their logjams. Sure, Hairston can play right away and Rosales has an injury to recover from. However, Quentin, Hairston's roster replacement for the Dbacks, is a much better defensive player than Hairston and probably a better hitter over time, too. I like the trade.

Am I the only one here who just never saw Hairston as doing much of anything?
I mean yeah he had some pop, and yes he may have done better if he was actually given a chance to play everyday...but I never saw him as anything spectacular, and he's never put up the numbers really to match the hype. He's already 27 and is nothing more than a bench bat now.
Meh. |

Nor am I. But I do get tired of being complained at 24/7.
So I try to keep my mouth shut.

So, who plays LF next season if Byrnes leaves and Gonzalez/Upton is not ready? |

That's all anyone ever wanted. Give him a legitimate chance. Instead, the team wasted that PT on expensive no-ceiling guys who were not going to be here down the road and didn't put the team anywhere near the postseason. And at least a couple of whom were guilty of Hairston's sins and then some. I wonder how many of the people who conspired to never give Hairston that chance helped donate Uggla to the Marlins . . .
Then again, Uggla played 154 games for the Marlins in '06 and hit #2 in the order in 132 of them. Arizona sure as hell wasn't going to give him that kind of opportunity, with or without Hudson.
