While waiting in line I saw four women who had a system going. Some were folding and some were punching votes. I think they said they did four boxes while in line. I really dont like this fans voting system. Watching these women encompassed almost everything I hate about it.

There are fans on Twitter who literally have boxes of ballots and vote only dbacks, including Eaton and Hill non-stop, probably the same people involved.

There aren't enough of those kinds of fans.

Not in Arizona, at least.

But that's okay. Tammany Hall wasn't built in a day, either... ;)

As you can see, I am on a new Comps Kick....here is a new one for Goldy. This actually feels pretty right, doesn't it ? (Well except that Joyner was a lefty...but other than that)

I'm not joining you on this bus, Joyner became a gap to gap doubles hitter after those 1st 2 monster seasons... I dont see Goldy's power drying up anytime soon.

Quote:
When the folks on television start to talk about what this Paul Goldschmidt is doing for the first-place Arizona Diamondbacks, he has commandeered the remote control and changed the channel. Eric Hinske refers to him as "Ivan Drago," the strong, silent man/machine from "Rocky IV." Diamondbacks relievers made up the whole "America's First Baseman" thing, put it on T-shirts, and practically brought Goldschmidt to a blush.

Paul Goldschmidt--the same age as, and now reaching the potential many had expected of, Justin Upton. In a game where injuries, slumps, regression and time often catch up to players it's nice to see a guy continue to get better and better, consistent year to year. Enjoy every minute of it.

Goldy is kinda officially struggling now.

Last 23 games, 99 PA, (since June 6th through July 1)

.222/.293/.433 .726 OPS 1 double, 6 HR, 9 walks, 19 K, 12 runs, 16 RBI

Other than the homeruns, which some of course have been huge, he is not hitting as well, and is still not adjusting to sliders down and away.

Last night I couldn't believe how poorly he was reading sliders a foot off the plate.....he's not seeing the ball at all. He was just swinging away from his heels trying to pull pitches that ended up half a foot to a foot outside and below the knees. His bat never came within 2 feet of the ball.

Maybe he is starting to feel the pressure of "being the man", and is trying to do too much. I can understand that, since so many of the guys behind him have not produced.....but he HAS to lay off those pitches and take his walks. Ultimately that will actually HELP the other hitters find their strokes, as they will get to bat more often with a runner on, and see guys from the stretch and under duress and all.

GOLDY.....STOP WAVING AT SLIDERS DOWN AND AWAY.....TAKE THEM, TAKE YOUR WALKS. THE REST WILL COME BACK.

His strikeout vs. Aardsma encapsulated his struggles in one at bat...

Two terrible swings on sliders in the dirt, ball on a slider way outside, a fastball right down the middle to catch him looking and sit him down.

One of the Mets commentators (I think it was Keith Hernandez) summed it up: "I guess we know now what type of a hitter he is. A guess hitter."

Apparently there were two sliders for balls, to bring the count to 2-2. I was half asleep on the couch at that point

http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.js ... mode=plays

Paul Goldschmidt called out on strikes.
Pitcher D. Aardsma
Batter P. Goldschmidt
1 83 Slider Swinging Strike
2 84 Slider Swinging Strike
3 84 Slider Ball
4 83 Slider Ball In Dirt
5 93 Fastball (Four-seam) Called Strike
