Maybe a 2011 rematch in the WC game? ;)

Thanks. But they're chasing the Cubs first (2 games behind) and the Rockies second (3 1/2 GB). With 31 games to go I expect the Dbacks to take care of business and hold onto one of the wild cards.

Just watching some slo mo of Kershaws foot pause in his delivery on MLB and the thought occurred to me that may be putting extra strain on his back.

Obviously that motion has contributed greatly to his success. Makes it very hard to time him.

But if that motion at all contributes to his back problems, then maybe his career will not be all that long

Funny, I thought the same thing watching him in the playoffs.

Dodgers at top of Stanton's wish list for destinations but article goes on to say due to luxury tax concerns LA may not be interested or able to absorb that salary.

Dodgers have a decent amount of talent coming up through the system with a payroll that's decreasing structurally, and have all that money coming off the books in upcoming years. I think they're posturing and this gets done.

*Edit: Dodgers have approximately $62.5M coming off the books when contracts expire after 2018. (AGonz, Puig, Kazmir, BMcCarthy, Ryu, Forsythe) . They're locked into Kershaw/Turner/Hill/Jansen/Maeda for about $90M in 2019, everybody else is controllable. I wonder what the models/sims say about a lineup that goes Seager-Turner-Beli-Stanton    . The rest of the west will continue to shoot for the wild card...

The Dodgers seem to have a chance to do this super-team properly. You can't just add an all-star and slot them into the 7th spot in the order. But the Dodgers have an organically forming roster where they can promote an internally developed player who happily assumes the 7th/8th spots in lineup on a platoon basis and produces better than average results from that spot in the order behind the established all-stars.

I really hope the Verdugo kid sticks, he's from same neighborhood as a lot of my elementary school friends.

In All seriousness, I don't see the Dodgers taking that salary cap hit.

It's set at 197 and they are already on track for 215, and they have to pay 50% over the overage. If they take on Stanton they zoom to over 245M in 2018.

Also, keep in mind, that Machado and Harper come to free agency next year, and as you point out the Dodgers do have a lot of money coming off next year. They are currently projected as needing 153M in 2018

So I can see them paying Harper his 40M a year starting in 2019 and still staying under the luxury tax threshold.

Well, San Francisco Writer Thinks LA is big threat to get Stanton, so maybe my point above is all wet.

If they get Stanton, AND Ohtani, it's going to really get ridiculous trying to mount any kind of effort to win the division.

Now that Giancarlo has rejected San Francisco and St. Louis, I'm expecting the effing dodgers to find a way to make a trade work.

Looks like Stanton's headed to NY. Yankees & Marlins have reached a deal pending Stanton's approval.

Glad he is out of the division.

So which one of Harper or Machado do the Dodgers sign next year ?

I have to think that the Dodgers are the front runners to sign Bryce Harper. They have a ton of guaranteed money coming off the books after 2018. I also think Harper will prefer west coast.

Their current estimated payroll commitments (Guaranteed + Arb + other). luxury tax number in parenthesis

2018 215M (197)
2019 155M (206)
2020 134M (208)
2021.. 95M (210)
2022.. 82M
2023.. 74M

Looks to me they will be able to sign Harper, extend Bellinger and Seager, and still remain comfortably below the luxury tax threshold.

OR, their other option is to sign Machado, move Turner who is signed through 2020 to first, and Bellinger back to OF full time.

Either way, one of Harper or Machado seems like at least 50% chance of being a Dodger.

Which sucks for us.....

Harper is from Vegas, Machado from Florida. No surprise if they both land on their home coasts.

He was 8, in 1994. Let's ask what the great people of Montreal think about MLB players striking.

I know he isn't really complaining about not get paid enough, but strikeout/lockout is an issue for me.

My favorite sport has always been hockey. My first professional sports game was a Hartford Whalers game at Hartford CC. In Marana, I had hockey sticks, roller blades, a net, etc. Anyway, the lockout of 2004-2005 happened. I don't really remember to many details on why it happened. When the NHL came back, it was still a few years before I really started coming back around to hockey. And to be honest, I hardly paid attention to baseball in the 2005 season either with the sour taste of the NHL lockout still fresh. (Strangely, the shortened 2012-2013 season didn't do any harm. Maybe due to this being the most recent season)

Bad idea.
