Thanks, shoewiz. I read through to see if I posted anything ... but I didn't see my name there. I recall I was hoping for Sale... especially since I knew the Dbacks were looking to go cheap at #6, and there were rumors Sale would sign for a reasonable amount. Many other posters hoped for Sale too.

BTW, I had missed the tweet from Callis mentioned here

Not in love with the Loux choice. First signability-inspired pick. They liked Harvey but he wasn't slottable at 6

Cheap ass Dbacks. I hope they are happy that they passed on Harvey for a few bucks...

SHADOW's guy with an excellent scouting report:

I dont follow the draft like you guys but when I got home last night had an interesting message from my scout guy.

He says they were looking at this kid as a possible 2nd round pick and took him off their board due to injury concerns.

He says he does not think this kid will ever pitch in the Major Leagues.

OUCH.

Braden Shipley made his pro debut last night with the Hops. He pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit (a double) and striking out two. I may try and catch him on Sunday in his home debut.

Went and watched Shipley in person today. Definitely impressive--he only pitched two innings, but struck out four (walked one and gave up one hit and one run). His fastball topped out at 96 mph. The Hops won 5-4 in 19 innings!

Sounds like it was fun! How does Portland like having Baseball back? I really like the Hops ballcaps and I'll probably order one here soon.

I do miss the Beavers though, one of my favorite ballcaps.

It was fun going to the game yesterday. Nice little (4000 seat) ballpark. It's about 10 miles out of town, so it works fine on the weekends and not so much during the week when you have to fight rush hour traffic to get out there

Here's a pic I took of Braden Shipley delivering his 96 mph fastball.

HILLSBORO – The Hillsboro Hops will be without four of their top pitchers for the season’s stretch run.

Medford-native and 2013 first-round pick Braden Shipley and closer Jimmie Sherfy were among four Hillsboro Hops players called up Wednesday to the Class A South Bend Silver Hawks.

Shipley struggled at Hillsboro, registering an 0-2 record with a 7.58 ERA through eight starts, but struck out 24 in 19.1 innings.

Sherfy, a 10th-round pick from the University of Oregon, was sporting an 0.00 ERA with 17 strikeouts and just three hits allowed in nine innings pitched. He had converted all five of his save opportunities.

The other two call-ups were 2013 36th overall pick Aaron Blair (1-0, 2.90 ERA) and Northwest League all-star Daniel Gibson (1-0, 0.45 ERA).

Shipley has some good stuff, hence the strike outs, but he's also been prone to the bad inning.

Going to make a real good South Bend even better for the stretch run. They don't get much hype but they have the best record in MILB at 75-45

Heard on the drive home Grace is going to be their hitting coach.

Am I too late to make the Grace/Hops connection?

Looks like Todd Glaesmann decided to unretire and give it another shot.
