Very cool to have Drabek as the pitching coach! Do you think that the Hops will be able to help the misplaced fanbase for the Beavers?

Wasn't Drabek the pitching coach for the Rawhide?

Cool. Now with merely a little math I can figure out how far I am from Chase Field (this is located at the Diamondbacks' Spring Training facility)...

Ty Linton turned out to be an absolute waste of a million bucks. Anyone heard what happened to this guy? I know he's had some injury issues...

Up the middle athlete. Those never go bust.

In all fairness to the current GM, though, it seems Linton was a Josh Byrnes regime pick... from the June last draft he led before being fired in early July of 2010...

Ironically, the disastrous Barret Loux pick (I was hoping they'd have the balls to grab Chris Sale - even though Matt Harvey arguably turned into the better pitcher, and he was taken right after Loux) turned eventually into Archie Bradley.

Imagine if Josh Byrnes had taken either Matt Harvey or Chris Sale with the 6th pick in 2010. Would you rather have one of those two guys right now, or Archie Bradley sometime in the future? I have to go with Harvey, personally.

If we could play monday morning QB time machine with every draft, we might have a pretty solid team.

That's what makes me so good - I'm an expert MMQB.

The Loux pick was disastrous the moment it was announced. He was a reach and teams knew he was injured. It probably was a money saving move, and I suspect it was ordered by ownership. On draft day, I felt Chris Sale was good value, despite questions about his mechanics. Harvey was considered a bit of a reach at #7, but the Mets obviously did a very good job scouting him.

http://www.azcentral.com/sports/diamond ... erall.html

Quote:
He does have an injury history. He missed time in high school because of a sore shoulder and needed surgery last year to remove bone chips from his elbow. The Diamondbacks say he is healthy, evidenced by his strong season.

"He got himself healthy," Scouting Director Tom Allison said, "and he had that opportunity to come out and really show what Barret Loux can do when he's 100 percent healthy."

Still, in a draft filled with uncertainty, the Diamondbacks took him higher than some predraft reports anticipated. Baseball America ranked him 34th overall; ESPN had him 42nd.

Some of the comments after the article are funny... but many of them are spot on.

In hindsight, the comments by Josh Byrnes and Tom Allison are high on unintentional hilarity, low on baseball acumen.

This is what Nick Piecoro tweeted when Matt Harvey made his debut, ironically vs. the Dbacks

I think we all agreed on Loux at the time as well.

I remember *everyone* had a hard time wrapping their head around the Loux drafting, even the dudes on MLB network had to try to BS about him to make him sound like a good choice.

Well, we are pretty good MMQBs. And yes, I recall the 2010 draft day posts. Most comments were "Barret Whox"?

Ironically, rightly or wrongly, Josh Byrnes was canned shortly after drafting Loux. I wonder if that was the final straw.
