Baseball America Mid season top prospects update HERE

Anthony Banda is still the only D Back on the list, but has moved up from 83rd to 68th. Mostly on the strength of staying healthy, posting up 17 times for 96 innings at Reno.

The 4.69 ERA may not look attractive, but it's Reno. That is actually the best SP ERA on the team. The only guys lower are relievers
Report Link League avg ERA in the PCL is 4.84

Not taking Park Factors into account, that gives Banda a 103 ERA+. Reno is a hitters park though, even for the PCL, so you could probably bump that closer to 110 ERA+

Not bad, not great. He's doing solid work in a tough environment. He's only had 3 outing or so where he didn't give his team a good chance to win.

I think that Banda must be pretty close to getting his first call up, as he's on the 40 man roster. Certainly he will get a September call up unless they need to shut him down for innings concerns

He's been right at 150 IP the last two seasons. I can see them letting him throw 10-20 major league IP on top of 150 Minor League innings, but not much more than that. However if he gets called up before September than the Majors IP will have to be watched closely.

Yoan Lopez has Setback

Nick with the details
Quote:
Right-hander Yoan Lopez, who put himself back on the prospect map with a dominant second half as a reliever with High-A Visalia, was removed from the Salt River Rafters’ roster in the Arizona Fall League due to what Hazen described as “minor shoulder stiffness.”

Lopez posted a 0.88 ERA in 30 2/3 innings this season, walking just nine and striking out 56. He touched 99 mph with his fastball and routinely sat at or north of 95 mph, and he also featured a swing-and-miss slider.

The Diamondbacks spent more than $16 million to land Lopez in January 2015 only to watch him struggle both on and off the field in the following two seasons.

Not only did he post poor results in 2015 and 2016, he twice left his Double-A team without notice. The first time, the Diamondbacks had to scramble to locate him; the second time, he told them he was considering walking away from the game.

Lopez missed the first half of this season, dealing first with a blister before suffering a rotator-cuff strain in May. His current shoulder problem raises red flags given the issue earlier this season, but Hazen said the club’s medical staff is not concerned.

“We’ve evaluated it and don’t think it’s overly serious,” he said. “But this time of year you don’t take any risks with it.”

Lopez logged three scoreless innings in the fall league, allowing five hits with no walks and three strikeouts.

Ron, what a coincidence.

I plan on going to AZFL all star game tonight, and saw that Reyes made the All Star team in AZFL, was going to post about it.

May be a stretch to hope he will be as good as Inciarte, who had better walk rates at similar level and is an all world defender, but Reyes looks like a guy that can provide reasonable depth, depending on how good his defense is.

He played over 1000 innings in 2017, split 60/40 RF/CF. Only made 1 error, so thats good.

Maybe working with McKay and AJ in ST can improve his defense or get it moving in the right direction. Hopefully he gets an invite to ST, if for no other reason than to get a taste. I would think he's a lock for Reno in 2018.
