Kershaw didn't really have his curveball today and this game still ended up over from the bottom of the first inning after Walker pissed himself on the mound. Didn't even feel like there was any hope until he ran out of gas in the 7th.

Hopefully Ray feels good for tomorrow.

And special mention to the incredible rally killing skills of Drury. Bravo man, bravo....

Best thing you can say about tonight, it only counts as one loss. One miserable, bullpen-burning loss.

I don't see much of a bullpen burning angle to it. Godley saved us from that. Nobody else was extended or used out of normal. So yes, Godley is unavailable out of the pen but that's the only bullpen arm that is off the table.

Normally would be upset. Honestly though, I'm just enjoying the ride. I think back a year ago when I watching the NLDS after losing my dad and thinking that we wer sooo far away from reaching this series. It seemed so bleak so to me just making this series is impressive.

This game was given to the Dodgers before it began. #lineup

The "bullpen burning" angle is that the Dbacks have played two playoff games in three days and have gotten exactly four total innings from their starters, meaning they've had to use the pen for 13 innings. Yes, Godley kept it from being worse, but they pretty much need to get a Herculean effort out of Ray tonight (and this is uncharted territory being he threw 2 1/3 innings of relief three days ago) or this thing is over.

Thanks for the clarification. Yeah, I agree getting only 4.2 innings total out of 2 starts won't keep us around past Monday, but my point is that rather shockingly the actual "bullpen" arms (not starters) are doing just fine. The only guy used in both games was Chafin and he pitched to one batter each game. Bradley is the only reliever with over 1 inning pitched and he pitched 1.1 innings and has now had two days off. So somehow even with the starters crapping the bed, the relievers in the bullpen are actually not having to take the brunt of that as one would expect. The biggest concern with the starters bad performance and it's an extremely huge concern is how does the 34 pitches to get 2.1 innings Ray through on Wednesday effect him tonight? I'm not sure how many pitches a pitcher throws on their "side" sessions, but I'm sure even if it's close to the 34 he threw that they are not quite the same as actual game action, and having breaks in between innings like the live game.

The good take away from last nights game is the team scored 5 runs off Clayton Kershaw and Kenley Jansen.

Thats not too bad. Bodes well for the hitters confidence and performance the rest of the series.

David and Driaz covered the bullpen stuff. I'm not too worried about that.

Bottom line, this game is over. time to move on to tonight. It's a must win game. Lose, and their chances to advance are in single digits.

To be honest, I was kind of thinking this was almost a punted game (Walker vs Kershaw? Lulz). I agree this could be a confidence booster, scoring 5 off those two.
