Jake Barrett is not a good pitcher.

His underlying peripherals are really horrid.

His ERA in 2016 looked decent at 3.49, but that masked his very poor walk rate that was not offset by enough strikeouts.

His FIP, (Fielding Independent ERA) last year was 4.14, a good deal higher than his actual ERA. He also allowed 18 of 40 inherited runners to score last year, which is 40% and much higher than league avg of 30%.

This year, in not a lot of innings, he has been even much worse.

His ERA is 5.25 and his FIP is 6.78 ! And he again has an inherited runners scored rate of 40%

In his 83 career innings he now has a 4.00 ERA, 4.90 FIP, and that 40% IRS%.

Simply put, there is no reason that Jake Barrett should have a post season a roster spot on this team. If he does, it's madness, and undoes some of the great front office decision making that has happened this year.

Imagine if that team did not have the tragic death of Jose Fernandez setting them back in the rotation. That is one helluva lineup. If they had an ace out front of their rotation, they would be a playoff team.
