Clippard kept serving up meatballs and getting dinged is what you'll get for that.

Clippard for his second inning
Kemp: slow bouncer to Segura. 1 out
Marisnick: strikes out swinging on the fast ball. 2 out, 5 straight retired by TC
Springer: Walkoff homer! High rainbow bomb to left.
Stros win 5-4 in 11
looked like a curve or maybe a change. probably not a strike but he could hit it and he did and won them a ball game.
Greinke tomorrow

hold up there Bert, you can't say that's the best Clippard has looked all year when he was throwing center cut breaking balls and blew the game.

According to Clippard's game log, this is the first time all year he has tried to pitch more than one inning. Blame Hale for not having his relief pitchers ready to pitch more than one inning, and expecting effectiveness. It's what happens in the modern game where you have one guy pitch each inning, and then you get into extras and you lose.

And considering our team's knack of long extra inning games there should have been a backup.

relievers pitch only one inning, and starters can't go deep, and next thing you know your bullpen is gassed.
When Luis Arroyo was the closer for the 1961 Yankees, he made 65 appearances and 41 of them were multiple innings. Completed
2 innings: 18 times
3 innings: 9 times
4 innings: 3 times
6 innings: 1 time
The less multiple innings you can get out of your relievers, the more likely
your bullpen will be gassed, sooner or later

It seems like the last 4 seasons our pen has had to be used an awful lot. Maybe not just seems that way

Probably true, because our starters don't go deep in games and one reason is this silly 100 pitch limit, which I guess is so pitchers won't get hurt, which they do anyway because I think they make them throw too hard too often which causes injuries, TJ surgeries, etc.,

4 of the worst 5 seasons by D Backs starting pitchers have been in the last 4 years. The other was 2004.
link to franchise ERA- since 1998
ERA- is better than using raw ERA because the run environments have changed. 2016 by far the worst if this holds up. 2013-14,&15 not much better.
Our starters have been well below average as a group for a long time time.

Dbacks didnt want it out there and I was told earlier this year not to mention it but hey now that Paula has let it out I'd be depressed too if I had to play for the Dbacks.
Make him happy trade him to a contender.

Is that in relation to Greinke's social anxiety/depression issues? I thought that was well known since his first couple of seasons with the Royals.

I inferred it from this in Boivin's piece she ran last night:
Quote:
After a rocky start, Zack Greinke is pitching better and has a 4-1 record with a 3.82 ERA during his last five appearances.
He is not the pitcher who posted a 1.66 mark last season, and one can’t help but wonder if he was more comfortable as the No. 2 behind Clayton Kershaw. He has talked in the past about managing social anxiety disorder and depression.

Segura: Ron Kulpa callin em today. strike out swinging on knee high heat. 1 out
Bourn: comebacker to Keuchel. The Gold glover makes an easy play from his gold glover fielding position.
Goldy: 3-2. nice eye there as it's too low and another walk for the big Texan.
Weeks: little tapper just in front of home, Gattis on it and gets him easily. Stros coming up
