Chances of this being a quick 123 inning for the win? You just know there will be drama.

The Padres sending out two of their weaker relievers in the 7th inning was a gift.

They get through that inning, the Dbacks weren't touching Benoit and Kimbrel

Just saw a shot of the outfield stands and they're nearly empty! Gotta wonder what the real butts in seats (not tickets purchased) number is tonight.

ESPN says 15,000+ and 17,000+ tickets sold last night and tonight. Seeing the nearly empty stands, could there have really been more than 10,000 actual people in the stadium either night?

I see I missed all the fun! Norris walked 2 and AJ got Quakenbush again!

I doubt Buddy would have played it that way
He might well have sent Quack out to start the inning
but starting the inning with the castoff Norris made no sense
If that game had really been important, maybe he would have sent
out Benoit in the seventh hoping to get a two inning setup.
The walks to Owings :shock:and to Hill which came around to score
were enough to win.
Back in the Seattle days, Lou had no tolerance for relief pitchers walking the first batter they faced, and would frequently yank them. Once Norris walked Owings, that should have been a sign to Murphy that he was in trouble.
Probably should have yanked Norris right then and there, but Murphy apparently was not hired because of experience.
Upton caught a lefthanded break when his Fup turned out not to matter.
Ahmed was going to be on anyway and later score on Pollock's bomb
* * * * *
and then when Quack came in, I wonder if he thought Pollock was not going to swing on the first pitch and he could get away with a cripple, get-me-ahead strike. I like Pollock, smart dude. He must have been looking for something like that and was all over it. We have the same philosophy on hitting: Throw me a fat puppy for the first pitch and I'm gonna spank it.
* * * * *
so with a 3-1 lead and everything going their way, the Pads blew it in the 7th.
nothing for Kimbrel to save. Sad that Ross lost his effectiveness after 100 pitches. If he could have gone one more inning, the outcome might have been totally different.

not really a satisfying win. More like they blew it.
