Does anyone know if Goldy was asked to participate in the HR derby but turned it down or if he was not asked at all?

Broadcast on one of the games last week (can't remember which game) said he was asked and declined. Didn't want to mess with his swing or his routine.

with this year's format, for as fun as it was, I'm fine with him not participating in it. It seems like that it's a perfect way to either hurt yourself or mess up your swing.

Was talking with a friend the other day about who the best player in each league is. We both agreed on Trout in the AL, but in the NL he said either Stanton or Harper and I said, "How about Goldschmidt?," not even sure if I believed he was. Spent a little time with the numbers, and I think I'm more convinced that Goldschmidt is the best player in the NL today (not looking at building for the future, right now). Power, average, base running, defense--the guy has it all. You all know that, but unfortunately his talents are lost on a lot of the rest of the baseball world because he plays on a mediocre team in a smaller market.
Am I off base here?

He's either 1 or 1A

Is this the worst slump of his career?
Should I be worried?

April 2012 says hi.
And I'm not worried yet, these things happen and I never thought he was going to end the year hitting in the 340s or 350s anyway. He has been in a power outage for a while, but I don't think it will be too long before he starts getting hits again.

But I was told Keith Law never said anything nice about the Dbacks!

Goldschmidt is the exemplar, a guy who hits all kinds of pitching, makes hard contact, controls all parts of the zone, and works the count. He's physical and cerebral, and I think he's as hard to pitch to as anyone in the game.

And now the FO will extend Goldy's contract for another five or six years for $120-130M. A few weeks ago, I was in favor of extending his contract, but now I want to wait until after 2016 to consider it.

Just ask the Reds how they like the Votto extension now...

I don't see Kendrick agreeing to more than five, or possibly six, years added on to Goldy"s contract after 2018. That would cover thru his age 35 or 36 season. After that I see team options for two or three years. Votto's contract pays him guaranteed money thru age 40 season.

Saw this linked on his BRef page. Shows a slide from a game in late June.

He might be injured, but I do think that if there was anything wrong he wouldn't hide it.

Paul's in Phoenix today for the birth of his first child. He'll miss tonight's game in Denver and Friday's game in Chicago, and is expected to rejoin the team for Saturday's game at Wrigley.

Congrats to him and his wife!
If this were not September, would we get a callup for the Paternity List thing? Like the 26th man for double headers then ship him back down.

D-backs look to rest Goldy more next season
Quote:
Third baseman Jake Lamb has played there at times, as has outfielder Yasmany Tomas, but neither has much experience at the position.
"We probably need to find somebody who's a little more comfortable playing first," Hale said. "It could be maybe Aaron [Hill] working on that in Spring Training, getting comfortable playing first."
Can't wait.

Besides $$$$, I don't see why they are keeping Hill around.
