Stay healthy for 4 more years, Goldy! Gonzo holds the team record for HR with 224. Should be well within range for Goldy.

Goldschmidt's 100th HR came on his 2,211th plate appearance. Gonzo had 52 home runs after his 2,211th career plate appearance.

Paul has nearly double the home run rate at this stage of his career.

Of course Gonzo hit 270 homers from his age 30 season until his retirement.

Goldy should get to 175 to 200 Max by the time he finishes his age 29 season.

Then if he matches Gonzo from age 30 onwards, he could be around 450.

Goldy started a little late......by a season or two, and missing time last year, to have the career counting stats of some of the all time greats through this point in his career. Just not that many PA'.s through age 27.

But it's important to note in his entire career, Gonzo only had 1 season, (2001 of course) with an OPS+ higher than Goldy's career average of 152.

If you take Gonzo's best stretch 5 yr. of his career, 1999-2003, which is a very clearly defined peak, he had a 140 OPS+, and averaged 5.0 WAR per season, (or 5.2 per 650 PA)

Goldy, in less than 4 full seasons worth of PA has a 152 OPS+ and has averaged 6.2 WAR per 650 PA.

He would have to fall back A LOT of the next 1.5 seasons to drop down to Gonzo's best 5 year peak.

Goldy > Gonzo.

It's pretty straight forward.

He included the 3 postseason HRs.

Goldy caught Harper in BWAR as of this morning, they both at 4.8

Still trails in fWAR, but in 2nd, 4.6 to 4.1

Goldy is in the midst of a truly remarkable stretch, by any metric or positional adjustment. The Pitch Discipline and K%/BB% metrics are particularly impressive. He's already moved the needle on RoS projections to above his previous career highs, looks like the systems may be beginning to recognize this as a new peak level of performance for PG44.

Extended hot streak with significant regression towards previous career averages? Or has PG44 made a leap in sustainable performance and a much lower regression RoS?

I'd like to see him keep it up, but this just seems like one of those unsustainably good stretches right now.

Going to be fun while it lasts

Hopefully that will take their minds off other things.

That didnt take long.

Not 1 but 2 feature stories in the Sunday paper.

One even compared Goldy to Hank Aaron.

Lots of cool stats and player comparisons. Even talk of ripping up his current contract and that he is going to be a DBACK for life.

Here is a comparison they left out.

Todd Helton.

Like Goldy he was the face of the franchise.

Like Goldy he played first base.

Like Goldy he's a lifer.

Like Goldy he put up some pretty monster stats.

Like Goldy he plays for a so called small market team.

Like Goldy he plays for a poorly run franchise.

But here are 2 things no one wants to talk about.

Just 2 playoffs in his 17 year career and his stats drop off the table in his 30s.

Somebody, anybody tell me why this wont happen here?

Guaranteed, my guess is somewhere around age 35. I'd extend him through then if the price was reasonable.

Mark Trumbo leans in a more definitive direction. Not only is Goldschmidt the best player in the NL, he says, he might be the best in all of baseball. Trumbo has a unique perspective: He's played in both leagues, and when he was with the Los Angeles Angels he shared the field with center fielder Mike Trout, the player popularly considered to be the best in the game.

If there is a gap between Goldschmidt and Trout, Trumbo thinks, it's not very big.

"If he's not the MVP, he's one of two or three guys," Trumbo said. "And that's just the National League. For me, this guy is one of the top two or three players in all of baseball, if not No. 1."

Pollock and Upton both named to the allstar team, along with obviously Goldy.

Glad they both made it in.

Even though Holliday had a nice start to the year, I wish he would sit out of the ASG after missing the last month though.

Let someone else have a chance to go, hes already been there 6 times and started twice.

Wow, AJ Burnett has never been an allstar before? Surprising.

I think Scherzer starts the game, could go to Greinke, easily though.
