Any new stadium will be much smaller.....38,000-42,000 MAX. The don't care about the upper deck. They really regret that Chase is as big as it is. If they had to do over, they would have made that stadium with 6000 fewer seats.

I would think 40,000 might be tops. An ideal situation, I think, would be a design where they could add 2-3,000 seats for playoffs. Bleachers in the OF.

Would any of the newer artificial turfs be an option for the new ball park or would it be too hot? I'm only talking about the areas currently covered by grass at Chase.

The Braves went from 49,586 to 41,149, or about 17% smaller. Cleveland went from 45,569 in 2010 to the current 35,255, or a decrease of almost 23%. And neither had to pay to put a roof over it. The dbax will. I could see going as low as 30k. If that's too small and it's 100% occupied each game, well that's a great problem to have.

Just saw that the Republican tax plan eliminates the entertainment expense deduction for businesses. I would think that could have a huge effect on professional sports. Many businesses write off season tickets as entertainment (of clients).

Bickley , doing what he does best. (No snark intended, he writes these kinds of articles well)

Bickley: A new brand of baseball may have saved a dying sport

Quote:
“We’ve benefitted from the World Series matchups over the past two years,” Hall said. “And when you couple that with the over-the-top show of emotions, where it felt like a Little League World Series after every home run … that connects with a younger generation.

“This might be a challenge for traditionalists who aren’t used to seeing this kind of baseball. But it’s definitely a new chapter, and I think we saw the birth of emotion. Players seemed to be having fun. Personalities are shining through. It’s gotten to the point where that stuff is considered acceptable and exciting. And as long as it’s not offensive or considered too in-your-face for the fans or the opposition, it’s a great thing for the game.”

I'm ok with that, as long as guys aren't grabbing their crotch as they round the bases....lol

Promo idea for kids. With the netting being extended down the baselines, as it should be, this will result in fewer souvenir baseballs reaching the stands. And we all know every little kid (and big kid) dreams of leaving the stadium with a baseball in their hands.

So why not just give baseballs away to children under a certain age after the game? The logistics can be worked so that they're not stuck giving away thousands of baseballs every night to every kid in the stadium, but maybe some kind of drawing/lottery can be held during the game and those winning fans can go down to the field after the game, almost like the way kids can run the bases after the game.

Sounds like a good idea, although the age think might be hard to enforce. Why not just give tickets to fans who sit in those areas, but only if they want them. Then collect the balls that don't make it to the stands for each side (1B & 3B, then call winning numbers after the game for those balls, for each side.

That's a good idea, too. Whatever leads to more kids going home happy with a baseball in their hands while also improving the safety of the event.
