Wild card teams that have won the World Series: Florida Marlins in 1997 & 2003; Anaheim Angels in 2002; Boston Red Sox in 2004; St. Louis Cardinals in 2011; San Francisco Giants in 2014. Three consecutive titles, from 2002 to 2004, were won by a wild card.

Could it be Diamondbacks over Indians in 2017?

I'm buying. The collective talent on this team, which is pretty vast, is finally playing to their potenital as a group. I think this stretch is going to give them a LOT of confidence and predict that we're going to make a strong push to get to the series this year.

The thing that worries me is that the team has been playing so well now I wonder when they will hit that inevitable mini slump (3-4 or 2-5 over a week) that seems to happen mostly every three or four weeks. That could happen about the time the playoffs start. Hopefully before to get it out of their system.

This reminds me of Colorado's 2007 run -- except a few weeks too early.

This is such a nice hot streak right now, but they don't last forever.

And we've seen how easy it is to fall into the cold streaks again with the weeks of Hell that we were in for most of July and August.

A WS run is definitely possible with this group and I'd love to see it. However, the road to it will be very difficult. I'll feel much better about their chances if they can win the coin-flip Wild Card game.

Unfortunately the world series percentage (to win) has only increased from 2-3% to 3-5%

Such is the life of a one game play in participant.

Ranks for Winning WS

Fangraphs and 538 have us 8th best percentage

538 has us 7th best percentage

You really can't even look at this until the wild card game has been played and won. Simple as that.

I like the Dbacks chances of making it far into the playoffs and even the WS, IF they can hit on all cylinders. Guys like AJ, Jake, and Peralta need to repeat their early season production.

If they can wrap up a WC spot early, I would like to see Godley moved to the bullpen for the last week of so of the regular season to get him adjusted before the playoffs. The same with Corbin.

That one game wild card is a crap shoot. The win streak at least makes it almost a certainty they get it at home. Yes, they're on a huge upswing, but there was no indication this would happen two weeks ago when people were being talked off the ledge. It came from out of nowhere and could leave just as quickly. This is not a 13-0 team any more than it was a 14-21 team.

This team kinda reminds me of the '05 White Sox: Rotation-heavy, only a couple of impact hitters, above-average bullpen, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if they lost the play-in game or won the Series.

I would love that for several reasons.

For one it would be cool to watch Network executives head assplode to get D Backs/Twins in a year when Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, Cubs are all in the playoffs.

Secondly the contrast between going from Chase field in late October to Minnesota in late October would really be extreme and make for some interesting story lines.

Not the least of which would be my ultimate dream of having a world series game SNOWED OUT IN MINNESOTA just because I think that would be funny as shit. I know I'm a jerk....lol
