Quote:
The Diamondbacks have tinkered with the idea for some time, according to Hall.

“We, for the past five or six years, have talked about the idea,” he said. “We talked to former pitchers, whether it’s J.J. Putz or pitchers who have retired or pitchers we’ve traded, and said ‘what did you like, what didn’t you like?’ They all talk about the grip.

“The one thing you don’t really want to do is negatively impact the offense, because that’s part of the fun of Chase Field or Coors Field, but I don’t think it really did diminish the offense at Coors Field. We don’t know if it’s going to make much of a difference, but it’s probably a necessity.”

---

Hall said MLB has strict guidelines in place once the humidor is installed. Among them, once it’s on, it’s on. All balls used in games at Chase Field will be subject to the same handling procedures and the club can’t turn it off when and if they feel like it.

The D-backs hope to have the installation completed in about a month, before the hot, dry summer months hit.

“Again, I don’t know if it’s going to make a difference,” Hall said. “It hasn’t made a huge difference at Coors Field, I don’t think. But even our pitchers say when they grip the ball there, it’s a better feel than it is here, so let’s at least try to get it consistent with the rest of baseball.”

Ah, the possibilities with which that phrase is pregnant... :lol:

I'm going to be interested in if it affects any pitching trends for the better, because boy do we need it.

Are they still using it at Coors? if so, it's been a while now so they should have a gauge on its effectiveness.

Didn't it drastically reduce HRs, and Coors' park factor? Methinks DH has gotten to the point where reality is a parallel universe.

Moi? Never! That would take KK eating the remainder of DH's retirement fund, and finding a competent replacement that he wouldn't have to ride herd on, and see through his KT like yes syndrome.

If this past week is in any way sustainable, then I don't want no stinking humidor.

It's not ;)

Best thing about the Humidor is it will help shorten the pitch counts needed to navigate opposing lineups, helping keep our pitchers healthier and stronger late into the season. That will pay off in the event we ever make the post season again . ;)

"Think about it this way: it is very difficult to make a stadium larger. You would need to move home plate or tear out seating and demolish walls."

Not true. Removing the fence in RF would be easy. The pool area would stick out, but most of the area between the pool and RF line would be about 10' deeper. In LF, just raise the fence by 5-8 feet, losing roughly the front 7-10 rows of seats. Don't even have to remove those seats,just cover them with a tarp.

As someone who's sat in the front LF row through several games at Chase Field over the years, I'm not in favor of the last highlighted point. There's a real intimacy with the game when sitting in that first row that I'd hate losing the opportunity to experience again.

About a month away.
I'm interested to see how it's gonna play a role for the rest of the season.

Originally I though it was supposed to be up and running by June 6th, (upcoming homestand)
With the offense so good at home and poor on the road, and the pitching doing so well overall, I wonder if this is not an intentional delay.

@nickpiecoro
Dbacks GM Mike Hazen says MLB wants the club to wait until 2018 to start using the humidor at Chase Field.

@SteveGilbertMLB
#Dbacks GM Mike Hazen says MLB has asked the team to hold off on implementing humidor until next season.

@SteveGilbertMLB
There were some issues in building the humidor and it took longer than expected. #Dbacks Had trouble keeping the room calibrated.

Took longer than expected because Lamb and Goldy kept smashing it with their bats to slow down the progress
