Rodney agreement with dbacks is for $2.75M plus many, many inventives. Plan is for him to close.

One year and not bad money. Still don't trust the guy after seeing him meltdown up close and personal in Seattle the first half of 2015, but he's a cheap veteran bullpen arm. If that's what they were looking for they've succeeded.

Pick up Huddy yet and call it good.

Rodney
Hudson
Barrett
Corbin
Delgado
Chafin
Koch

I can get behind that bullpen.

I am sure that come April, Stevie Berfoom will be crowing about all the great new players and how the Dbacks are SURE contenders in 2017 and come September they will be challenging the Giants and Dodgers for the division title, when in reality, September will most likely see another battle with San Diego to see who can finish out of last place.

at least he comes cheap. Giants get Mark Melancon for their closer, Dbacks get Rodney. Yep, we're here to compete (for 4th).

In the true spirit of unbridled positivism that is the hallmark of this forum, I
recommend you keep a safe distance behind so you don't get caught up in any

One thing about the Mariners: They may never see a World Series, but at least they can break .500. But I have to wonder: If Seattle was in the same division as San Francisco and Los Angeles (Dodgers) (as they should be), would the Mariners break .500. ever?

11.00 ERA a month into the season and they still keep running him out there as our "closer." That's the worst ERA among any pitcher in the NL with at least 10 appearances this year.

I say you call up Sherfy to take Godley's spot, flip Bradley into the rotation, maybe do closer by committee between Hoover, JDLR, and Chafin, and have Rodney mop in the rain until he either pulls it together (lol) or he finally flames out all the way. Unfortunately, there's no solid out on our bullpen at the moment.

although I guess the problem in my scenario is that throwing Archie into the rotation now will tax the bullpen further if he's not stretched out. But I'd argue that you have to take the plunge at some point.

That Sherfy is staying in Reno, and McFarland is coming up seems to indicate they're not ready to give up on Rodney

Now a 12.60 season ERA and another blown save... and STILL being run out there as our closer. Why?

I don't know, but I get the distinct impression Josh Byrnes would have loved Levello as a manager.

I mean it's fine, he's only costing us wins and the club apparently doesn't intend to contend this season. Let's just ride the wave and wait for the 40 year old closer to go back to being a good closer because we all know that pitchers after the age of 40 only get better with time.

Just think, If Rodney were a perfect 8 for 8, which he should be, because the two he blew were not one run leads when handed to him, they were both two run leads, so he didn’t need to be perfect to save them, the team would be 17-9 instead of 15-11

That hurts.

When Rodney is bad, he stays very very bad for half a season, at least, and now that he is 40, may never truly rebound.

We know he won’t pitch tomorrow no matter what, due to pitch count.

And they have an off day Monday. So the good news is the earliest we will be inflicted with his "pitching" is possibly May 2nd, Tuesday in Washington.

I could be wrong but I don’t think he gets pulled from closer role just yet. I think he gets one more chance to right his ship. But if he blows any of his next 3-4 outings, I think they pull the plug for sure. We’ll see. As stated before team is in a tough spot, but they are likely to be forced to try less than optimal option(s). Bottom line is this team has no closer and a very bad bullpen, and thats doubly unfortunate and sad considering how well above expectations they are playing.

Fernando Rodney now has a 108 ERA+, a 3.30 FIP, and 20 saves with 3 blown (87% success)

He is middle of the pack in Save% for Relievers with 10 or more saves

I like what he's done in the past month+, but knowing him I'm waiting for the house of cards to fall.

It's a little more than month+. It's almost 2 months, May 2nd thru June 27th, 19 games, 18.2 IP, 0 ER and only 2 hits. (including 10 inning hitless streak he is on now.)

But that said, you are right.....he is extremely volatile.

Remember THIS ? ;) 8-)

It may just be my inherently pessimistic expectations after 5+ years of Towers/TLR/Stewart, but I still have no faith in Rodney to hold a one-run lead.

I'd be happy for him to continue proving my pessimism to be unnecessary.
