A Laker in Arizona doesn't sound like a good idea.

Arizona Diamondbacks
@Dbacks
#Dbacks name Dan Haren as Pitching Strategist. He will work with the front office, Major League coaching staff, and analytics department.

Haren is a smart, analytically inclined guy (side note: also a nice guy, if my meeting him on both of our vacations in Hawaii this year is any indication). I like this move.

I'm really digging this front office.

Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal
4h
Sources: #RedSox have asked permission to interview #Dbacks’ Gardenhire. Interview with #Astros’ Cora is today, per @Dan_Shaughnessy.

The Tigers have decided they want Ron Gardenhire as their next manager, The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal reports.

Who would be the next bench coach? I'm thinking Robby Hammock. Recent managerial experience in the Minors, and it seems to me that I've heard/read that he is into analytics though not exclusively. Former catchers often seem to have a leg up on others when it comes to managing.

Good call. I could see Gracie getting moved up too.

Gracie got moved from asst. hitting coach to let go by the GM and then hired to do pre and post game for Fox.

I dont see him getting back in dugout with Mike Hazen/ Torey Lovullo running the show.

His future is back in booth as color commentator, probably after Brenly retires.

Maybe JR House will join the coaching staff this upcoming season. I think he's gotten buzz the previous years about being a future manager in the big leagues.

Apologies for the poor memory on my part regarding Grace.

Look for Red Sox bullpen coach Dana LeVangie to become new bench coach.

Robby Hammock. He's familiar with the players/organization and has at least MiLB managing experience. Has to be more familiar with TL's managing style and thinking. I think the only other possibility is another former MLB manager or perhaps Perezchica.

I would bring in Chili Davis as hitting coach.

Tommy Stokke reports that the Diamondbacks have promoted Jerry Narron to bench coach.
Narron was the manager for the team's Triple-A affiliate in Reno in 2017 and also was interim bench coach for the big club when Ron Gardenhire took a leave of absence following prostate cancer surgery. The 61-year-old has managerial experience with the Rangers and Reds and coaching experience with six different clubs dating back to 1993.

Been thinking a bit about Mike Butcher. He received a lot of criticism, including from yours truly.
Remember some of us could not figure out how HE was the one who survived the purge. See page 1 this thread

But the team just posted the best ERA+ in team history and best in NL this year.

I wonder how much credit he deserves for 2017, (or how much blame for 2016)

I thought they would pick someone younger (Hammock) and a student of advance metrics. Narron will be 62 in Jan.
