Glad to see he is exited to defend that Cactus League Championship!

This after being selected as the worst manager in alll of baseball by the Boston Globe.

Three ex DBack mgrs ahead of him in the rankings and 1 ex Dback player.

Wow, sensationalism much?

I sought the opinions of 20 major league personnel — executives, coaches, managers, scouts, and players — but these rankings are my own. They are based not only on last season, but also the manager’s career. As usual, the less-experienced managers are at the bottom of the list.

Seeing as Louvello has the least experience of everyone on this list, it makes sense that he's last, considering the writer mentioned it in the header of the artcle.

Maybe you should read what Cafardo writes about Louvello:

Nick Cafardo wrote:
All signs point to Lovullo being terrific. He’s very thorough in his game preparation and has a great understanding of his players.

Obviously we don't have much of a sample to judge Louvello on so the actual results are still pending. But to draw a narrative that he's a bad manager like you're trying to do is laughable.

Yep I was over the top and wrong. I actually like the choice of Lovullo and that the GM got to get "His Guy" and not someone ownership had a major say in the hire.

The funny part though is the "Championship Season" quote.

Years and miles away from being in that conversation.

not sure where this is appropriate to post, but Gardenhire was diagnosed with prostate cancer and will have surgery in April. Hoping they get it all and he's back in no time.

I'm good with the manager being optimistic like that, I'd rather have that than a manager who doesn't believe in the team at all, within reason.

Hey, Leicester City won the Premier League last year. Spring is the time for optimism, right?

Ken Rosenthal thinks that Lovullo could win the NL Manager of the Year award.

All of Rosenthal's predictions (MVP, Cy Young, MoY, etc.) are HERE.

Rodney is Torey Lovullo's first major managerial crisis. How he handles this, along with the front office, will tell us much. Not a big fan of rash decisions made using only a snapshot, but Lovullo's had nearly an entire month to evaluate Rodney's fit into the closer role during meaningful games. Like I said, how Lovullo and the D'backs' management handle Rodney will speak volumes of the skipper's leadership style. Does Rodney really deserve another close opportunity? Does it only come down to whether Rodney has earned a Save or a Loss this young season, regardless of Walks, singles, extra bases hits given up?

And could that be just because Torey Luv used to be with the BO$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$TON RED$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$OX??
Oh, BTW, of all the manager candidates, did Torey get the job because he submitted the LOWEST BID?

Rosenthal looks like a psychic.

It's stupid that Hazen would do that, or Stupid that DS would suppose thats what Hazen did ?
Neither is stupid of course.

It was a good decision, obviously, and Hazen made the decision based on the fact that he worked with and knew Lovullo, thats what DS means by "his buddies"

GM's throughout baseball bring in people they know and have worked with , i.e "their guys"

Many executives do the same, some have competent "buddies" who have the ability to do the job, others, like TLR don't.

Following Sunday's debacle Torey is quoted as saying this:
"Offensively, we couldn't really get it going. We had some opportunities with men in scoring position and less than two outs. Be we gotta remember, this is a
tough game. Guys are out there, pitchers are bearing down, and sometimes it's not as easy as it looks. We will continue to be an offensive team, and I believe
in us as an offensive team." So let's break this down:
1. Offensively, we couldn't really get it going. Say what? The Dbacks got the leadoff man on in the 1st, 2nd, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th. Three of those- two walks by
Bailey and one by Lorenzen. The only run eventually scored was a solo homer by Pollock.
2. We had opportunities with men in scoring position and less than two out. In the 5th Blanco on third, and in the 6th with Goldy on 2nd and Lamb on first.
They threw Blanco to the wolves in the 5th and Goldy to the wolves in the 6th. No mention of that. Must have been the players' faults.
3. But we gotta remember,,,not as easy as it looks: Anything to deflect from the fact they F---ed it up. Sounds like a lame excuse to me. The game is even tougher
when you shoot yourself in the foot.
4. We will continue to be an offensive team....translation: we will keep trying to hit home runs because that's the only way our team can score.
5. And I believe in us as an offensive team...and the moves made Sunday were VERY offensive, IMHO.
With this kind of thinking, I am truly amazed this team has actually won 53 games.

lessee....you have 37 posts over the last 5 years. Nice you could stop by for a visit.
as far as a good call making him manager, we'll see where we are at season's end. I have been impressed most of the time but NOT LATELY.
Noted that you apparently didn't think Shoe's question was worthy of your effort to try to answer.
It came as no surprise that Hazen named Torey as manager. But as far as Hazen is concerned, it will be a matter of time before
his degree of success can be evaluated, and what he does between now and the forthcoming trade deadline will show much.
