More proof that pitchers should start wearing helmets.

Helmet wouldn't have done Archie any good.

I was watching the softball game between Utah/ASU a week or so ago. The pitcher for Utah was wearing a mask similar to a catcher's mask, but much smaller and seemingly less cumbersome. 115 mph balls hit back through the box need MLB's immediate attention and resources. Don't know what the solution is, but it's important to look into it and not just give it lip service.

I think sadly it will take something major for the MLB/MLBPA to institute a mandatory "pitchers mask (for lack of a better term)." Even then, you will have players against it. Take hockey for example, the NHL made helmets mandatory some time in the late 80s, but the last helmetless player retired a decade later (he was grandfathered in). Even goalie masks took a while to catch on. I think the first goalie masks were worn in the 50s, but didn't really become a common thing until the 70s with Bernie Parent.

Ouch! Get well soon, Mr. Bradley.

Here's hoping that there are no long-term ill effects.

Brandon McCarthy's tweet was funny, "man I'm glad you're ok and that you stopped playing football for a safer sport like baseball"

It's good that at least he thinks it'll be a minimum stay on the DL.

Velocity has been way down this year. He used to throw upper 90s now its low 90's. His curve is a hit or miss and does he even try the change anymore?

Unless we have a pitching coach in Reno that can fix him Im not sure what they should do.

Trade him for the next Derek Jeter

There was some comment during the spring about how he is trying to take off some of the velo for better control, but that isn't working as well as we would like right now

Bradley's had 4 swinging strikes in 96 pitches last night.
so this caused me to look up his season numbers.

Leage avg SwStr% is 9.5%. Bradley’s 5.9 SwStr% ranks 129 out of 145 for pitchers with minimum 30 IP

League avg OSwing (pitches outside the Zone swung at) is 30.5. Bradley’s 16.4 OSwing % at, is Dead Last, and a full 5 % points behind 2nd to last.

This is the very definition of NOT fooling anybody. Hitters are just not offering up at anything thats not a strike, and now hammering everything that is. The early "pitch to contact, groundball" approach seemed interesting, but obviously not sustainable and less of a "choice" than we were lead to believe .

This is a sad development. We had hopes of Bradley being a potential TOR guy with an electric fastball. But his velocity loss, coupled with very poor command, AND also having the limitation of being just a two pitch pitcher, because he’s "not confident in his changeup" is really making me question if this is more than a matter of a few mechanical adjustments.

Maybe Archie needs to reboot as a reliever……….if he is one of those guys that regains velo pitching out of the pen, and where a 2 pitch "arsenal" might work.

Seems extreme to to suggest that after less than 10 major league starts. I’m just questioning what is really going on here. If he were firing it up there at 95-96, and using 3 pitches, and just having control problems, then we just wait it out and hope he finds the plate. But that is not remotely whats going on here.

I’m stumped.

Arizona Diamondbacks @Dbacks
#Dbacks place RHP Archie Bradley on the 15-day DL (right shoulder tendinitis) and recall LHP Robbie Ray from the Triple-A Reno @Aces.

Hopefully it's minor, and the reason for recent lack of success.

Hopefully it's a phantom/fake injury

Nick Piecoro ‏@nickpiecoro 1h1 hour ago

Chip Hale says Archie Bradley was sent back to Phoenix for tests. Didn't feel great after his outing.

Hale said he wasn't sure if it was shoulder or elbow or what with Bradley.

Not a good 1st rehab outing. Was getting hit real hard not sure about velo, command, or how he felt.
