I have no idea what the hell WPA is but Jake has a 4.17 WPA for the season the best in all of baseball.

Explanation Here

It's not very predictive, but useful for things like MVP discussions.

Hershiser and Davis (Dodgerscasters) made the point more than once on Sunday that Goldy has been the big star on this team in recent seasons but it appears to them that
Lamb is getting all the big hits now.

I put in a search for ages 23-25 with minimum 900 PA and seasons 1st through 3rd.

Walker actually reached PA threshold in seasons 1-2, so it's not exactly apples to apples, but I kind like seeing him in between these two guys.

The Pena comp seems more likely than the Walker comp, but I just found this interesting.

for 2016 NL only

Big difference in fielding and playing time though, so big difference in WAR with Bryant ahead 5.2 to 2.7

Still, the batting production on a rate basis are equal for 2016 at least.

What's exactly do we know about his thumb injury? He's currently in the midst of his second extended hitless streak since the ASB. I hope this isn't a Jason Kendall-type situation brewing.

supposedly better, but he was due for some MAJOR MAJOR regression anyway.

Sucks that it's happening all at once. But it was to be expected

I mentioned it 5 days ago here

He doesn't appear anywhere on the exit velocity leaderboards, either.

Tomas is in a similar situation on both counts.

He's slashed .193/.270/.381 in 226 PA with a .238 BABIP in the second half of the season. While there's a certain amount of bad luck there, he's also 129th out of the 148 qualified hitters in LD%. He just isn't squaring up the ball that much since the ASB:

1st half: 20.5% (98 out of 167)
2nd half: 14.5% (157 out of 165)

He's also striking out like crazy:

1st half: 24.6%
2nd half: 29.2%

And hitting a good amount of additional flyballs:

His FB%:

1st half: 33.8%
2nd half: 39.1%

The big adjustment Bryant made from last year was to flatten out his swing a bit and that helped reduce his K%. It'd be interesting to see Lamb's swing from May compared to August. I wonder if it was flatter earlier in the year?

The bottom just continues to drop out for Jake. OPS+ all the way down to 116.

But I want to comment on his fielding.

It's been a strange year.

From opening day through May 18th, in 37 G, 313 Inn he had 2 errors and a .977 Fld %

Then starting on May 19th through Aug 14th, 67 G, 547 inn, he had 17 errors and .904 fldg %

And since Aug 15th, he's played 29 straight errorless games in 250 innings.

He currently has -10 rDRS., -11 rDRS/yr. (prorated to full season)

I can't get rDRS in game logs, but I have been paying attention closely all year. In the early part of the year he was aroun 0 to -2 most of the time, but in the middle part of the season his rDRS sank all the way to -13, and the rDRS/yr was -17 at the worst point I remember. And that was right around mid august.

What this means is that over the last 29 games he hasn't made an error and his rDRS has been +3..

What a strange season for Jake. SO up and down, not only with the bat, but with the glove as well

Interesting case for tangotiger's scouting report.

Stranger still that his wRC+ at Chase hasn't dipped below 101, and is zeroish away.

I mean that he only dropped to average, or slightly above at home, and really, really sucked away from Chase. The new FG split tool is a dangerous weapon indeed. Also notable is his wRC+ vs LHP, April, June and September 145, 157 and 113 respectively.

Understood , it still effects me, although it's been years since I've been on one.

Unfortunately it doesn work that way. I have to believe that what I am saying is true or correct when. i write it. If I wrote that trying for the opposite effect they both wouldmget 3 year extensions.
