Pollock has produced a better player value line during that stretch, though.
I still say Cargo > AJ.

Pollocks "minor" knee injury will keep him out Sunday too
Glad they are sitting him. No need at all to rush him, or risk further injury until they are sure.
My guess is it's not so minor. Once knees start to hurt, it never really fully goes away.
This is why you don't extend long term a guy who's value is closely tied to his legs. AJ has had a really good July though and OPS+ is back up to 124
2014-15 combined line
173 G, 714 PA, .304/.358/.479 836 OPS, 128 OPS+ 42 DB, 9 TP, 18 HR
Value :
Batting Runs +26
BaseR Runs +7
Fldg. Runs +20
WAR 8.6 !
He's been a truly great ball player when he's on the field the last two years.
Just to put this into perspective, WAR Per 650 PA, Pollock 8.3, Goldy 8.1
Yeah....that good

If it's really just behind the knee it may not be a big deal.

Two 4-5 games in a row. Hitting .379 in August going into today.
Did Goldy transfer his talent to AJ or something?

Nick Piecoro @nickpiecoro
Hall says GM Dave Stewart has opened dialogue with A.J. Pollock's agent regarding an extension.

I have to admit I saw this thread red and thought, "Uh oh. " Glad it wasn't what I was thinking.
Also, let's not get into EB22 style extension...

In the current climate, his Arb1-3 costs feel like $5M/$12M/$25M. But he also got a late start and won't reach FA until after he's completed his age 30 season. So the real question is how much of AJ's career beyond age 30 do you want to control? He doesn't appear to have the body-type that breaks down early; barring an impact/collision injury, he seems more like a slow fade.

I was way off on those Arb estimates. Great deal for the Club.

I had 4/7/10, total 21 M
So I had 11 the first 2 years and this only saves them .75 M
It's ok, nothing special here. They had him under control anyway and save less than a million, and AJ has some security in case he gets hit by a bus.
They still have to decide whether to go to arb with him his final arb year, in 2019, which they still control, or to try to extend him later.
Mostly I'm glad that he doesn't need to think about money for a while.

I think you meant 2018 not 2019. Pollock will be a FA before the 2019 season if he is not extended.

Sigh.
Excuse #1 is now ready to roll out for the front office when their "go for it" moves don't pay off.

Because we can't have nice things.
I haven't looked but did they do exams during the spring to the elbow? It's just bullshit if they let him play today with a not fully yet recovered elbow.

Do we even know if the injuries are related? It is the same elbow he broke back 2009. The way he injured it tonight looked innocent enough, like something that might have occurred in the home picking up the baby. Freakish.

Welcome back Veronica.
I think the postseason hopes are pretty much fucked now. Unless Brito becomes a star I don't think the offense is deep enough now.

Chip Hale mentioned a separation in the elbow leading into tonight's game that was part of AJ's pre-existing condition from 2010 injury
