Now, if we divided 337 by the number of games managed, who would have the better number? Gibson, or Melvin?
Okay, found some data!
Melvin went 337-340 (677 games), giving him a W-L% of .498.
Gibson, as of today's win, has an identical record: 337-340 (677 games).
Whoda thunk it? As Yogi would have said, "It's deja vu all over again!"

Except Gibby gets to ice a lower win %.

You've lost me. 337/677 = .498 - for both Melvin and Gibson.
Of course, Gibson, unless he retires or is fired before the next game - not terribly likely - will move into the #1 position with wins; but is far more likely to also find, at the end, that he will finish with a lower win percentage. If you were speaking of the future, then your comment makes sense to me.

gets to = future, assuming he's not canned before he has a chance to lose more than he wins.

Unfortunately that page is not where anyone wants to be.

I left (what is currently the top) comment on the Grantland piece. Hopefully it sums up the board's general feelings succinctly.

I'm not sure there's one unified "board opinion." I'm not a fan of what Towers has done to this team, and I've voiced that, but the authors of the linked articles are a bit over the top in their generalizing that the Diamondbacks and their fans are all evil. Meh, whatever.

Yes, it's still in the top position.
Yes, I think you expressed what a majority of us here are thinking and saying.
Thank you.

I'm not a fan of retaliation but the media is being sanctimonious about the whole issue. If Clayton Kershaw responded this way after Puig broke his hand it would be "part of the game." I can see that it is bogus for us to wait for a losing game and have it carried out by a AAAA pitcher but that's a minor detail.

It's a big deal because it was clearly accidental, and both Gibby and KT publicly promote retaliation, although neither has the balls to take responsibility when it happens. That is a story, and in a bigger market it would be a bigger story.

That's really bullshit.
Cork Gains writes in Business Insider's Sports Page "the Diamondbacks intentionally put an opposing player at risk over what was essentially a freak injury". So intentionally throwing a pitch high and inside was not putting Goldschmidt at risk? Was it really necessary to throw a high tight pitch with one out in the bottom of the ninth, nobody on, and the Pirates up by five? The fucking fact of the matter is that the Pirates put Goldschmidt in jeopardy for no legitimate reason.
If these so called sports writers and fans have a problem with baseball self-policing, maybe it's time to have an automatic ejection ANYTIME a batter is hit. Probably have to expand rosters to at least 28.

Then they shouldn't openly promote it, and celebrate (fist bump) when it happens.
