Shadow's right, Scully is the last of the classic announcers. My dad picked up those same radio broadcasts while at UofA during the 70's and passed that on to me. Even my wife likes Scully. Just think of how many generations of Los Angelenos shared that experience of listening to Vin Scully call the Dodgers games? Such a fortunate fan-base to have that continuity and quality decade after decade.
While Scully and the rest of those classics were all unique with their own styles, the new breed seems to be much more generic and interchangeable. I think the real difference is the backgrounds of the new announcers compared to the classics. The new guys are Media/Com majors trained to look and sound a certain way on TV, whereas the classics had a superior command of English/Literature and could paint a picture with their words on the radio. How many of the new breed of announcers could recite the most fitting Shakespeare in response to the announcement of John Wooden's passing like Scully did?
Obviously Scully is in a class to himself, but I have also always really liked Greg Schulte. I hope he remains the radio guy long enough to bridge generations like the other classics did.

I like Schulte too. I really don't think he is as bad as his reputation sometimes. I mean, sure he does have bone headed "warning track wall anddd...caught at the wall for out number two" but even that is just thinking it's out off the bat and being mistaken.
I agree with Shadow's post, as well.
Free Bert, and bring back Sutton!

Schulte is amateur hour and I have no idea why people would endorse him. The dude continually leaves any semblance of pertinent information, like pitch location and what type of pitch it is (just in mid conversation with Candiotti throw out "and that's a ball/strike"). He would be fine on TV where the information is provided, but on the radio you are supposed to paint a picture for the audience and he is the worst I have ever heard at that.

Glad to see Vin coming back for another year, but sad it is only one more year. I dislike the Dodgers, but absolutely love Vin! Like a few on this board I grew up listening to him on KOY 550 in the 80's!
I can take Schulte or leave him. I don't find him horrible, but don't go out of my way to listen to him either.
I liked Sutton and would have liked to seen him paired with Brenly. Grace got on my nerves sometimes, although didn't mind him most of the time either.
On yet another side note - it still irritates me that on the MLB TV package that alternative broadcasts are still blacked out. Sometimes, maybe once a series, I'd like to listen to the opposing teams broadcast to get a different perspective. I usually enjoy it when we do color commentator swaps during a series for a few innings and would like to see that more often.

I can't stand Schulte either but John Holmberg from KUPD does a great impression of him.

His Wiki page needs to be updated. He's doing MUCH better since that was last updated.

Daron is doing the UofA vs Texas A&M women's soccer match on the Pac-12 network. His hair is all shaved off.

I still miss Jeff Munn as the public address announcer at AWA and BOB. He was the voice of the former in the Charles Barkley/KJ glory years, and I was glad when Colangelo had him be the PA at BOB in the early years too. The guy they have now is a little too "forced" and not just a natural PA guy, IMO.

I think Munn and Brenly would have made a very good team, rather than Steve Buffoon. I think there would have been less comedy and more professionalism from the guys in the booth.
