Joe Peta, contributing to ESPN.com praised the Diamondbacks for “selling high.”

“Arizona’s front office has made a number of boneheaded decisions the last few seasons, but trading Segura, coming off a monstrous career year, accompanied with unsustainably high sabermetric readings (.353 BABIP and 13.5 percent FB/HR rate) to Seattle for starting pitcher Taijuan Walker and perhaps a shortstop of the future in Ketel Marte, grades very well through the ‘sell-high’ lens.”

Quote:
Diamondbacks righty Taijuan Walker isn’t quite ready to take the ball this weekend, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports on Twitter. Walker says his blister is nearly healed, but isn’t quite to the point that the club is comfortable putting him on the major league mound.

Link

I was concerned about the blister becoming an issue all year. They can be notoriously difficult to deal with. On scale of 1-10, when he was DL'd, I was about a 5-6. I am probably up to 6-7 now.

By the way, there is a separate thread that was started Walker to Ten Day

Just as a point of reference, most players on the MLB roster have their own thread. If you can't find it easily you can go to search link at top of the page and type in players last name and choose "topic titles only" in the search subforums section of the search page. That will kick out the threads with that player in the title.

Sometimes there is a thread on a minor leaguer in the minor league section. Often you will see "so and so gets called up" , which then becomes the major league thread for that player.

It's kinda nice to keep a player's news and analysis on one thread. Makes it very easy to go back as far as their MLB career started to see what has been said about the player.

Cheers :)

$937,500 just doesnt buy what it once did. ;)

Think of the nickname.

How many teams carry 3 catchers and how many as bad as ours?

Waste of roster space.

WIth last night's loss, the Dbacks have lost six straight Walker starts.
He has been charged with the loss in three of them
Herrmann caught two of them
Iannetta caught the other one
In those six games, three catchers have caught Walker twice each
With Herrmann catching he has given up 10 runs
Mathis, 8
Iannetta, 4
*
It's all part of the team's current downward spiral

But with Herrmann you get a left-fielder capable (sometimes)
and a first baseman rarely used because they won't give Goldy the rest he deserves.
think of the versatility!!
As I listen to opposing teams' broadcasters
most of them are puzzled as to why we are carrying three catchers
among other puzzling things this team does that blow their minds
(So tired of Sieve Burpfumes and all the rest of this orgs BS that I actually listen to Cubs and Cards broadcasters and they even sound good)
you get an OBJECTIVE view of the team from opposing broadcasters

And you get to hear Steve call him the Herminator! That alone is worth it!

Sorry, I don't have anything constructive to add here. I just want to tell you, TDS, that "Burpfumes" is the funniest thing I've read today -- AND it's also an apt description for Bert's play-by-play style!

Not kidding: I would challenge Bert to a "play-by-play-off" if I could. I genuinely think I'd be better.

I think the broadcasters are required by D. Hall to try to be funny. If you've ever listened to Daron Sutton outside of the Dbacks broadcast booth, he comes across as very professional. I think the same me be true, at least in part, to the current broadcast team. D. Hall doesn't seem to understand that THE GAME is the entertainment and doesn't need all sorts of gimmicks to keep the fans interested.

The real benefit of living outside AZ is being able to watch the opponent's broadcast. I really tried to give the AZ crew a chance because Brenly is so good (I'd rank Brenly and Hershiser as the top #2 guys on their respective broadcasts out of the whole league), but even Brenly's talents aren't enough to overcome the shortcomings of the AZ production.

Updating the Johnny Cueto Comp. Still holding. Taijuan does give up more unearned runs, and has been much easier to run on in his career than Cueto. So lags in game management perhaps. Still.....Walker, while still experiencing ups and downs, and frustrating at times, is STILL ONLY 24. We need to remember that.

I've been wondering if he's dealing with something physically. Velo has been 92-93. Earlier was 95-97. I'd speculate that he's dealing with something, and given our lack of SP depth, he's gutting it out. That's why I haven't been too hard on him lately.

His Top Out numbers are pretty consistent. The outlier is June, when he was topping out at 98. Before and after, 96

Hi avg velo is off 1+ MPH from where he was early in the season, but i don't think this is the biggest issue. Avg velocity by month

The main thing for walker is to learn to COMPETE like Cueto did. Don't let the little stuff get to you. Don't let the umps get to you. Don't complain about your catcher. Don't have an excuse for every time you fail. Compete better. Thats what Walker needs to learn.
