Portman (along with Colin Firth for The King's Speech) are the surest locks to win Oscars for lead acting.

And The King's Speech (film), Melissa Leo (supporting actress, The Fighter), and Christian Bale (supporting actor, The Fighter), are getting to be surer locks every day.

I had to get new brakes put on my car and while waiting I walked over to the theater. Unknown was playing at the right time and I like Liam Neeson so I checked it out. It is not good. I cant say it was horrible but it is very close to horrible. The twist was way to easy to figure out. A car chase started and I thought that would be fun but it was very generic and boring as car chase scenes go.
Liam Neesons wig or toupee is ridiculous. Wait for DVD and even then, if you dont see it you are not missing much.

Saw the Tilman movie and the review was spot on. I hate my govt now even more than I did before. Just shameful.

Also saw Machete funny as hell. Just ordered my Machete Chop Shop T Shirt.

I saw the Tillman story on DVD. I was not impressed with it. It lacked a lot of the emotional ooomph that the book had. The movie did not seem to scratch the surface of all they went through. I will say it was interesting to see some of the family video after reading the book. Reading the book gave me a lot of insight to what they were thinking and going through. To see them at events and knowing what was going on was interesting.

Clearing out some of my backlog, I finally saw Doubt. Meryl Steep and Phillip Seymour Hoffman were amazing.

I saw The Rite today. I liked it quite a bit. Not really a horror story. It is more about one mans faith and how he finds it. Anthony Hopkins was outstanding.

I watched the Lord of the Rings trilogy over the course of this week. I never get tired of it.

I've heard that it's great. I watched Drive last weekend and thought it was very good. Really well put together.

Kieran Culkan steals every scene he's in....plus Alison Pill is cute as heck.

I didn't find the joy in Bridesmaids that most people did. I thought it either needed to be more outrageous, or less (they kinda played it half way). I also saw Drive last night--very Tarantino-esque film noir story, with a ton of graphic violence (maybe a little too much for my tastes).

Movies I've really liked from the last few months/year or so that made a lasting impression on me were (in alphabetical order):

Blue Valentine
Drive
Melancholia
Shame
Silent Souls
Winter's Bone

Movies I'm looking (highly) forward to this year (so far) are (in order of anticipation):

Prometheus
The Hobbit
Django Unchained
The Raven
The Dark Knight Rises
Snow White and the Huntsmen
Tim Burton's Dark Shadows
The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye
Casa di me Padre
The Dictator
World War Z
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
and yes,
FDR: American Badass

And many many more. 2012 looks to be a fun year for both film and TV (Walking Dead, The Killing, Mad Men...)

I'm like David...prefer depressing & provocative foreign/indie films with either unhappy or ambiguous endings. Bridesmaids didn't work for me...got bored with it

Just got back from the Dark Knight Rises. Great movie. Not as good as The Dark Knight but still very good. A great way to end the series.
